The Deadly Papers (Paperback)

Doug and Kit Harding, after enjoying a day in the country with friends, come across a terrible automobile accident on their way home. Inside the wrecked car is an FBI messenger fleeing with classified government documents. The agent begs the Hardings, before he dies, to deliver the papers to his contact in Juarez. They accept the papers with many misgivings, but agree to do what the dying man requests. Kit's curiosity gets the better of her and she reads some of the documents as they are driving home. She soon realizes the danger they have put themselves in by doing the man a favor. She and Doug talk it over but know they have to finish what they started. Doug goes to Juarez and Kit, after sending their teenage daughter into hiding with Doug's brother, buries herself in the mountain wilds of New Mexico, barely managing to elude capture and sure death. One day, finally, she realizes that, all alone, she must get on with her life. Her emotions turn to anger. Winter comes early in the mountains and she isn't prepared to stay hiding forever.
