One Summer (Paperback)

Ever since she was a small child, Hailey's high society parents have tried to force their ways upon her. And for as long as she can remember, Hailey has been rebelling against them. Like any other child she does not like being forced to do anything. However, in the summer just after she turned nineteen Hailey is told that she, her brother, and parents are moving from their high class life in Los Angeles, California to a small town called Cedar Point in North Carolina with a population of under a thousand. It was never a surprise that her father's business, though it had given her a life that most would love to have, always had a way of ruining her life in one way or another. After contemplating ways of staying where she was, not wanting to leave the life she had made with her friends, Hailey finally realizes she has no choice and moves with her family. But it was once she arrived at her new home that Hailey's life turned interesting. After getting acclimated to her new home, Hailey sets out to explore and not sure what to expect finds herself face to face with two new friends, Jackson and Scarlet. But something isn't quite right, Scarlet appears to have more of a dark side than Hailey is used to and they find themselves in trouble. However, Hailey soon finds that Jackson (Jack), a twenty-one year old guy who, for reasons unknown to her, takes a liking to her. But, due to her past history with men, Hailey isn't too trusting at first. It is only after a near death experience, circumstances beyond her control push her and Jackson closer together. But Hailey didn't come to town looking for romance...or so she keeps telling herself. Jack will not give up and soon works his way into Hailey's life. Soon he and Hailey find themselves spending nearly everyday together. However, toward the end of the summer, Hailey comes to find out that Jack had been hiding something from her...a secret that is life or death.
