UIA-Kongress 2002 (Paperback, illustrated edition)

"Resource Architecture" is the central theme of the XXI World Architecture Congress which will take place in Berlin in July 2002 in conjunction with the General Assembly of the International Union of Architects.

The concept of architecture as a resource can be interpreted in many ways: architecture can be regarded as both art and a valued resource, which can revitalise and enhance inner cities and anonymous surburbs; it creates new buildings in urban contexts whilst injecting new life into existing ones; it renovates old buildings, protects historical monuments; it develops and makes use of innovative technologies saving natural resources; it promotes sustainable building...

The topic is multifaceted, but at the heart of the Congress are the ways in which the building professions express their responsibility for the built environment. The four official publications focus on various aspects of the Congress but all show architecture -- alongside natural resources -- to be one of the most valuable assets of civilisation.

The poster enables ideas to be clearly and precisely conveyed, and it is this idea which is at the centre of the UIA poster session: a selection of individual contributions on the main topic are depicted through this visual medium, offering a summary of the most interesting and innovative ideas, solutions and approaches.

In striking images, varying approaches to the theme "Resource Architecture" are presented, focussing on such aspects as town and society, nature and the built environment, innovation and tradition, space and identity.
