If a strange boy or girl should come along, she would say " Cluck cluck I cluck " very quick; and off she would go with the chickens running after her. Biddy would not care if the little girl took up her chickies, and held them in her lap. They have no fear either. So they stand and look up very wisely, or peck away after the crumbs of meal in the dish. When the little girl gets her pets all close to her, she will talk to them all, and give them some nice bits to eat. They all have good manners. They do not push and crowd, but eat out of her hand, as she holds it out to one and the other. The chickies can have only fine crumbs. They do not see how it is their mother can swallow such a huge thing as a kernel of corn. If I could go and see all the little readers of the " Dayspring," what lots of pets they would show me Fine dogs, spry kittens, frisky lambs, clumsy bossies, soft-haired rabbits, and I do not know how many more. Well, I am glad they have pets; and I am very sure they get back from their pets all the love they give.
