I think I was probably as well acquainted with the Members of the House as any man could be. I knew theDemocrats well and I knew every Republican in this House and generally when, where, and what they did, because I frequently came into contact with them; and I never knew a corrupt Member of the House and I never knew any man who was offered money, of my personal knowledge; I never knew any man to take money on any proposition, and I never knew any man that had been corrupted by money by anybody while I was a Member of Congress, and I never knew of any attempt on the part of anybody to corrupt Members while I was a Member of this House. I have a very high opinion, of the Representatives of the people of this country, and I do not believe they could be corrupted or anyone could be bought for money. I never did believe it, and do not believe it now. Of course, the National Association of Manufacturers, so far as I know, never dreamed of anv such proposition. What the term " insidious r means, is, it means sly and under cover, etc. It does not mean corrupt.. There was nothing: insidious about the National Association of' Manufacturers, so far as I knew. They came here to fight their cause as they believed they had a right to do. And as I said awhile? ago, I am not a member 01 it and had no connection with it and never did in the world. I knew of their organization and objects and purposes, and they are set forth in the handbook as furnished to me in 1907, a handbook I think it would be well if the whole thing was incorporated in the minutes, and should go out to the country what they are doing here and...
