Not illustrated. 1911 Excerpt: ... the saloons in the town of Carlsbad were closed, as stated above, and on information which we have obtained from reliable citizens of the towns of Lakewood, Malaga, and Hope--the affidavit is made with reference to the saloons in these three towns. Fourth. There was no bribery, intimidation, violence, or fraud of any character used in connection with the election in Eddy County, N. Mex. Each person was without question, intimidation, or any violence permitted to vote his own sentiments. Good feeling was exhibited everywhere and only good-natured argument was used between the opposing forces. If there was a single fight or any quarreling of any character in this county on that day, we have been unable to discover it. The facts stated in this paragraph are sworn to on our own knowledge with reference to the town of Carlsbad and upon information and belief gathered from responsible people of substantially all of the polling boxes in the county, and upon the fact that no charge of any character has ever been made or intimated that would lead us to believe that anything of this kind had occurred on election day. In our opinion no election ever held at any place or at any time was ever more fairly conducted than this election. There was not, basing this upon our own knowledge as to Carlsbad and upon information obtained from reliable sources from the other voting boxes in this county, one particle of fraud, violence, intimidation, or illegality that can be found to have existed in connection with this election and we challenge the closest investigation of the matter.
