They were aftonifhed at fuch a difplay of riches and elegance; but 'the Sultan feeing one of the windows without ornament, enquired the reafon of it. Sir, replied the Prince, for fo Aladdin was now called, ' I ordered the window to be left in that "ftate, that your Majefty might have the glory of finifhing this hall and palace. The Sultan accepted the compliment, and or- -dered his jewellers and goldfmiths to fet about it. "For a whole month they were bufily employed, and had ufed all the Sultan's jewels, not- withftanding the large fupply he had received from Aladdin, yet they had not finimed one fide of the window. When Aladdin found they were quite at a ftand, he ordered them to undo their work, and reftore the jewels to the Sultan. He then rubbed his lamp, and directed the Genie "to complete the hall, which was done immediately. The Sultan, 'when the workmen returne3 "him the jewels came to expoftulate with his fon- in-law, on his leaving fo noble a hall unfinifhed: but when Aladdin conduced him into it, he found the windows were all perfect. Turning"to Aladdin, he embraced him, faying, ' You are a moft extraordinary man, to do fuch furprifmg things thus in an inftant, the more I know you, the more I admire you.' From this 'time Aladdin lived in great ftate. He was alfo happy in the affection of the Prin- cefs, the confidence of the Sultan, and the general love of the people.
