Excerpt from book: Juftice of God, in threatening and puniflring Sin with an endlefs Punifhment, confidered. THE juftice of God in punifhing fin with an endlefs punifhmewt is, by many, at the prefent day, called inqueftion; and, by fome, absolutely denied. But then it ought to be confidered, that let it be ever fo juft, it is no wonder, confidering the corruptions and interefted feelings of the human heart, that it fhould be one of the firft doctrines which are rejected, in a day when a revolution is attempted in matters of religion, as well as civil government. It is difficult, in all cafes, for legiflators to determine what punifh- ments are neceflary to fapport good government, and to promote the beft good of a fmall empire. Yea, parents are not able to determine, in all cafes, how far it is beft to pu- nifh adifobedient child...
