It's probably advisable to approach this album not expecting it to sound at all similar to any of their previous work. That is a good thing though. So different, so bleak, so hopeless sounding Third is at times that you might wonder about exactly what the mental state of the vocalist was while she was writing and recording this album. Her seeming despair, however, helps to transform this album into a dark and brooding masterpiece. Like watching a train derail; relieved to be spared the ordeal but nevertheless awestruck at the spectacle you are witness to. The "trip-hop" that they were known for makes way here for a kind of rock and harsh sounding electronic music. An album that relentlessly moves forward amidst devastating lows and intimidating highs. Featuring well written and performed lyrics, tracks that are at the very least interesting to listen to and you have a beautifully atmospheric album that will impress you with how well realized it is. Absolutely worth your time
