Let Us C (Paperback)

I got this book in my hand in 2001 when it was in it's 2nd edition. Kanetkar's lucid and simple language put this book much ahead of all it's peers. Also using Turbo C was still being used at that time. However with each new edition this book has only disappointed me. It is far from the latest happening in the world of C langauge. C itself might be a little outdated language but the core strengths of this language are still unmatchable by any other language. Let Us C has consistently failed o highlight all of these. C language is not a toy language. C can be used to build complex windows applications and it can also be used to build operating systems for embedded systems. Several versions of C are available which are vendor specific and which follow entirely different standard than the one followed in the book. A student learning C using this book will find it very difficult to code a Windows application that does something useful. There isn't any section that discusses in detail how the code is to be organized. What are .lib and .h files for and so on. This books is not recommended for serious programmers.
