A Night in a Moorish Harem (1896) is a Victorian erotic novella. Published under the pseudonym "Lord George Herbert," the novella has proved both popular and controversial as the subject of several obscenity trials. Noted for its orientalist tropes, the novella remains relevant to scholars of postcolonial literature and Victorian culture. "My first duty was to kiss the fair hands which had aided me, and then I explained the accident which had brought me among them and the plan I had formed for escape before dawn. I then gave my name and rank. While doing this I had an opportunity to observe the ladies; there were nine of them and any one of them would have been remarked for her beauty. Each one of them differed from all the others in the style of her charms: some were large and some were small; some were slender and some plump, some blonde and some brunette, but all were bewitchingly beautiful." Tired of life onboard, a young midshipman decides to spend his afternoon off in a small boat attached to the side of the naval vessel he serves. Comforted by the gentle waves and hot Mediterranean sun, he falls into a deep sleep. When he wakes, he finds himself drifting close to the Moroccan shore and is unable to spot his ship along the haze-strewn horizon. As he prepares himself to be sold into slavery-or worse-he spots a group of beautiful women watching him from the rocks. Helped ashore, the midshipman is brought to the safety of their harem, where he spends one night of ecstasy exploring their nimble bodies and learning the stories of their lives. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of A Night in a Moorish Harem is a classic work of Victorian erotica reimagined for modern readers.
The inspiration for the major motion picture The Green Knight starring Dev Patel, an early English poem of magic, chivalry and seduction. Composed during the fourteenth century in the English Midlands, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight describes the events that follow when a mysterious green-coloured knight rides into King Arthur's Camelot in deep mid-winter. The mighty knight presents a challenge to the court: he will allow himself to be struck by one blow, on the condition that he will be allowed to return the strike on the following New Year's Eve. Sir Gawain takes up the challenge, decapitating the stranger - only to see the Green Knight seize up his own severed head and ride away, leaving Gawain to seek him out and honour their pact. Blending Celtic myth and Christian faith, Gawain is among the greatest Middle English poems: a tale of magic, chivalry and seduction.
The Lustful Turk (1828) is an anonymously written pornographic novel. Published by infamous London pornographers John Benjamin Brookes and William Dugdale, The Lustful Turk was adapted into a 1968 film by David Friedman. Notable for its blend of popular literary styles, including the epistolary narrative, the novel of sensibility, and Gothic romance, The Lustful Turk influenced countless authors of erotica from the Victorian era onward. In a series of letters to her friend Sylvia, Emily Barlow recounts her fateful voyage to India. Captured by pirates on the high seas, Emily is taken to the harem of Ali, a regent of Algiers. Held against her will, she is tortured and subjected to sexual acts previously unknown to her. When one of her letters is discovered by Ali, he organizes Sylvia's abduction and reunites the friends in his harem. As the story unfolds, graphic sex gives way to a plot to violently overthrow Ali and free his many captives. The Lustful Turk is a controversial story that meets time-honored taboos head on, depicting graphic scenes of lust, castration, and rape. Condemned upon publication for obscenity, the novel is recognized today as an important work of Victorian erotica and as a harmful example of orientalist tropes. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of The Lustful Turk is a classic of pornographic literature reimagined for modern readers.
Elizabeth Thorpe, codenamed Cynthia, was a glamorous American socialite recruited by MI6 to obtain intelligence from the Polish Foreign Ministry and from the Italian and Vichy French embassies in Washington. Her method was to seduce whatever targets could provide her with vital intelligence, a practice in which she hardly ever failed, enabling her to secure first the French and then the Italian naval codes. In the landings in North Africa, she was credited with having saved the lives of hundreds of Allied soldiers. This unique account by a British spymaster of his relationship with Cynthia, detailing his subsequent involvement with Kim Philby and the Cambridge spies and his dealings with his counterparts in the CIA and French intelligence, was entrusted by him to a junior colleague on the basis that it was not to be published until everyone in it was dead. Necessarily anonymous and impossible to fully verify, though most of it undoubtedly did happen and is part of the historical record, A Spy Called Cynthia provides a special insight into the world of intelligence and one of its most effective practitioners.
MOTHERS IN LOVE: The Good, the Bad and the Unbelievable *By Anonymous Edited by Ron Hogan There's love, and then there's mother love -- maybe the most powerful love of all. Meet the mothers at the center of each of the 14 love stories included in this TruLOVE Collection. Whether their stories were written in 1938 or within the last few years, and whether they're about a single mom, a stepmother, or an overbearing mom who can't let go, each one explores the struggle and challenge of love and motherhood. Several stories focus on women who became single mothers unexpectedly, either through abandonment or widowhood. Another story finds a stepmother trying to deal with her husband's very unhappy child from a previous marriage. In most of these stories, our inspiring moms overcome their unhappy circumstances to find a sense of great self-respect. They also find new loves with good men who can be good fathers to their children. Even those mothers who try to keep a stranglehold on their children out of fear of eventually being left utterly alone, have their own journey to romance, and it is not an easy one. All of the heroines in these stories learn valuable lessons about coping with adversity and are rewarded by finding true love. We hope you find these stories exciting, heartwarming and, most of all, romantic!
The Prelude to Teleny (1899) is an erotic novel published anonymously, yet often attributed to Irish playwright Oscar Wilde. A loosely related prequel to the novel Teleny (1893), which is considered one of the first works of fiction to openly depict homosexuality, The Prelude to Teleny is the story of a young girl's sexual awakening and subsequent downfall, as well as of the son she bears. "My childhood was a very dull one. I am hardly certain whether I remember my mother or not, for I was only about two years old when she died. By an effort it seems to me that I can recollect having been taken into a dark hushed room, where she was asleep-of having been lifted on a couch and made to kiss her. Her face was as white as marble, seemed quite as cold; so that the contact of my warm lips with that clammy flesh produced an indelible impression upon me." Before she was reduced to this lifeless state, Camille Des Grieux was a young girl with her whole life ahead of her. On a sultry night in the south of France, she has her first sexual experience with a strange young drifter. Unsure if this was a real or just an intense dream, she wakes in the morning with a strange new sensation, and soon finds evidence of another's presence all around her room. Filled with brief scenes of romance and lust between its insatiable cast of characters, The Prelude to Teleny is an erotic novel that continues to entertain, shock, and surprise over a century after it was published. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of The Prelude to Teleny is a classic work of Victorian erotica reimagined for modern readers.

The gorgeously illustrated contemporary edition of an ancient Chinese text-for fans of fantastic beasts everywhere Fantastic Creatures of the Mountains and Seas is a new translation for contemporary readers of a classic Chinese text that is at once the geography of an ancient world, a bestiary of mythical creatures, and a book of cultural and medicinal lore. Illustrated throughout with more than 180 two-color drawings that are so sinuous they move on the page, it is a work for lovers of fantasy and mythology, ancient knowledge, fabulous beasts, and inspired art. The beings catalogued within these pages come from the regions of the known world, from the mountains and seas, the Great Wastelands, and the Lands Within the Seas that became China. They include spirits and deities and all sorts of strange creatures-dragons and phoenixes, hybrid beasts, some with human features, some hideous or with a call like wood splitting, or that portend drought or flood or bounty; others whose flesh cures disease or fends off nightmares, or whose pelt guarantees many progeny. Drawn from The Classic of Mountains and Seas, Fantastic Creatures is the work of two members of China's millennial generation, a young scholar and writer once known as the youngest "Genius of Chinese Cultural Studies" and an inspired illustrator trained in China and the United States, who together managed to communicate with the soul of a 4,000-year-old beast and have brought forth its strange beauty. Their work has been rendered into English by the foremost translator of modern Chinese literature in the West.
Hurt people hurt people. Say there was a novel in which Holden Caulfield was an alcoholic and Lolita was a photographer's assistant and, somehow, they met in Bright Lights, Big City. He's blinded by love. She by ambition. Diary of an Oxygen Thief is an honest, hilarious, and heartrending novel, but above all, a very realistic account of what we do to each other and what we allow to have done to us.

But, what exactly does a magistrate do, who are they, and how are they recruited and trained? Are they out-of-touch and unrepresentative, or still fit for purpose with a role to play in today's increasingly sophisticated and complex judicial system?
