The South African Special Forces achieved exceptional results with small groups of elite soldiers instead of larger, conventional teams. The Team Secret shows that the same principle applies in the business world – a small team has a much better chance of completing projects efficiently, on budget and on time.
Teams, rather than individuals, form the DNA of many companies and they play a pivotal role in achieving strategic and financial success. Like Special Forces teams, they must function as a well- oiled machine firing on all cylinders.
Koos Stadler tells in captivating detail about a real-life Special Forces operation and the lessons learnt about team dynamics and achieving the goal. His story, combined with anecdotes from Anton Burger’s experiences as a team leader in different work environments, show the many lessons the business world can take from the Special Forces.
The book identifies the key characteristics of an effective team, how to select the right team members, how to inculcate an ethos centred around team principles and how an effective team should be led. It speaks to both team members and team leaders across all managerial levels – from a team leader in a call centre to a project manager or CEO.
In short: To fast-track your business, shape up your teams!
Veteran journalist Anton Harber brings all his investigative skills to bear on his very own profession, the media. For two years he conducted dozens of interviews with politicians, journalists, policemen and 'deep throats', before piecing together two remarkable tales.
The first is a chilling story of police death squads, rogue units and renditions, and how South Africa's leading newspaper was duped into doing the dirty work of corrupt politicians. The second starts with a broken and discarded hard drive and evolves, with many near misses, into the exposure of the depths of the Guptas' influence over the ruling party.
Harber's two tales reveal the lows and highs of journalism during an era of state capture. His book is both a disquieting exposé of how easily the media can be duped by a conniving cabal for its own selfish ends, and a celebration of brilliant investigative reporting by brave and ethical journalists.
South African Human Resource Management, now in its sixth edition, answers the ever-growing demand for a human resource management (HRM) compendium specific to South Africa. Written by South Africans for South Africans, the book contextualises HRM locally and within the wider African context and demonstrates why HRM is central to the sustainable development challenges we face.
This update covers contemporary HR trends in South Africa and the SABPP’s National HR Management System Standard and its supporting process of ongoing development of Professional Practice Standards. It contains cutting-edge information for complete streams of HRM studies, and now includes numerous public-sector examples and connections, making it an indispensable tool for those practising (or aspiring to practise) HRM in public-sector organisations. The book emphasises the broader ‘HRM agenda’ showing its value to working people, organisations and to society.
The book introduces students to the general principles of the law of succession in South Africa, integrating the common law, statutory law, constitutional perspectives, and the related customary law principles. It addresses the Civil Union Act 17 of 2006, and the Reform of Customary Law of Succession and Regulation of Related Matters Act 11 of 2009 and other legal developments.

Nee, nie 'n verkleurmannetjie nie, eerder 'n man van vele fasette, a man for all seasons – dit verg immers 'n sekere intelligensie. "Age is just a number!" verseker sy hom.
The devastating AIDS pandemic in Africa poses daunting medical, social, and economic challenges, placing local, regional, national, and international communities at a moral crossroads. This title, the first to systematically examine the ethical implications of the AIDS pandemic for Africa, examines such pressing questions as: How do we deal with the uncertainties surrounding AIDS statistics? Is it really too costly to provide people highly active antiretroviral therapies in Africa? What is the relationship between AIDS and poverty? Is the political leadership in South Africa doing what is right and prudent to meet the challenge of AIDS? Is the developed world responding responsibly and justly to this crisis in the developing world? Is it moral for companies to make profits from AIDS drugs? Given the scope of the crisis, ought First World ethical standards for doing research on AIDS drugs and vaccines to apply unchanged to Africa? Ought we to include children in research for AIDS vaccines, and if so, how? Why do people persist in regarding AIDS as punishment for sin? Internationally acclaimed experts in their fields, most of them Africans themselves, come together in this title to address these challenging questions that have tested South Africa's and Africa's leadership, and that of the Western world. They challenge also us. For in Central and Southern Africa AIDS is not someone else's problem - it is our own. Our response to AIDS – in our own lives and households and workplaces and communities and organisations – will help determine the calibre of society in the future. A major topic in biomedical ethics, AIDS is discussed here in this context in a single volume that will serve as a resource for public health workers, doctors, care givers and managers in the workplace, all of whom confront ethical problems in their handling of the disease. It is intended also as a textbook for students of medical ethics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and addresses some of the fault lines that emerge in finding a global solution to the pandemic, as well as the radical changes AIDS is likely to leave in its wake.
Double-bill of big-budget spin-offs of the classic 1960s sci-fi adventure series created by Gene Roddenberry. In 'Star Trek' (2009), the film chronicles the early years in the life of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members, including Kirk's enrolment at Starfleet Academy, his first meeting with Spock (Zachary Quinto) and their battles with time-travelling Romulans from the future. Eric Bana, Winona Ryder and Simon Pegg co-star, along with Leonard Nimoy, who reprises his role as the older Spock. In 'Star Trek Into Darkness' (2013), Captain Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise are called back to Earth after a devastating force from within their organisation leaves the planet in chaos and Starfleet in pieces. Determined to settle the score, Kirk embarks on a manhunt with the rest of his crew including Spock, Scotty (Pegg) and Chekov (Anton Yelchin) to find the party responsible before their whole world is laid to waste.
Anton Fagan has taught the South African law of delict for twenty years and has written extensively on the subject. Undoing Delict: The South African Law of Delict under the Constitution includes his ten best previously published articles and essays. They deal with a range of topics, such as wrongfulness, causation, pure economic loss, and defamation. Several of the contributions investigate the impact of the Constitution, or of certain Constitutional Court judgments, on the law of delict or a part thereof. In addition, Undoing Delict includes a previously unpublished essay in which Fagan develops a new explanation of what it means for intentional harm-causing conduct to be wrongful. Many of the views put forward in this book are controversial and their defence against contrary views is at times robust. But the aim throughout is to deepen or advance our understanding of important and interesting, and in some instances puzzling, aspects of the South African law of delict.
Het jy geweet dat as jy cappuccino drink, daar 'n aap in jou koffie is? Waarom staan 'n mens se strottehoof bekend as 'n adamsappel?
Weerlose meganika is ’n heerlik aweregse roman, sowel ryke verbeeldingsvlug as skerp satire.

Chekhov's genius left an indelible impact on every literary form in which he wrote, but none more so than short fiction. Now renowned translators Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky give us their superb renderings of fifty-two Chekhov stories. These stories, which span the full arc of his career, reveal the extraordinary variety of his work, from the farcically comic to the darkly complex. Including several never-before-translated stories, this is a collection that promises to delight.
The second edition of Spreekwoorde En Waar Hulle Vandaan Kom is completely revised with roughly 3000 new entries. Two thirds of these represent origins from mainly old Dutch sources. While many expressions and proverbs are obsolete, they are still found in texts. Meanings of these expressions and proverbs would be unavailable to readers who do not have access to older dictionaries.
However, Spreekwoorde En Waar Hulle Vandaan Kom fills this gap. In addition, it is a handy reference work for Afrikaans and English users: Afrikaans expressions are not only explained. For each Afrikaans expression, its English equivalent or meaning is provided.
For the first time, Spreekwoorde En Waar Hulle Vandaan Kom also includes information about intensive forms, such as "so nors soos ’n buffel", as well as a number of commonly used Latin and French expressions, such as "raison d'être" and "joie de vivre".
