Collection of four comedies following the Griswold family's vacations. In 'National Lampoon's Vacation' (1983), the West Coast Wally World theme park is the Griswold's holiday destination, and they intend to drive there cross-country all the way from their Chicago home. Father Clark (Chevy Chase) has planned the trip down to its last detail, but the trouble begins as soon as they hit the road. In 'National Lampoon's European Vacation' (1985), the family win a holiday to Europe. Contrary to their expectations, however, it is not a luxurious, all-expenses-paid kind of trip, but rather a cut-price, economy deal which takes them to some of the Old World's seedier locations. Of course, it's not long before they are caught up in all manner of misadventures. In 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' (1989), the Griswolds decide to spend the Christmas season at home. Needless to say, it is not as quiet as they had planned. Finally, in 'Vegas Vacation' (1997), the clan head for the gleaming lights of Las Vegas. Unfortunately, Clark is soon transformed into a compulsive gambler, daughter Audrey (Marisol Nichols) becomes an exotic dancer and son Rusty (Ethan Embry) begins posing as a suave high roller.
A box set containing the original and the 3 sequels to the film that launched Macaulay Culkin's career. In 'Home Alone' (1990) ten-year-old Kevin (Culkin) is banished to his room while his family prepare for a Christmas trip to Europe. He wakes up to find they have inadvertently left without him. Kevin must cope not only with life on his own but also with the threat of two persistent, albeit incompetent, burglars. Meanwhile, his mother vainly tries to find a way to get back home. 'Home Alone 2' (1992) sees Kevin McCallister (Culkin) get separated from his family at Christmas time again. This time, they're in Florida and he's in New York, and the two bumbling gangsters from the first film (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) are out of jail and on Kevin's trail. Whilst in 'Home Alone 3' (1997) a band of hi-tech thieves have stolen a top-secret computer chip, and placed it inside a toy car. However, through a series of mishaps the car finds its way to Alex Pruitt (Alex D. Linz), who is alone at home with the chicken pox. The thieves track Alex down, but their attempts to retrieve the chip are all thwarted by the young whiz-kid. Finally, 'Home Alone 4' (2002) is a made-for-TV film. Kevin McAllister returns (played by Macaulay Culkin look-alike Mike Weinberg) and once again finds himself left alone in an empty house; this time it is a hi-tech safe-house, owned by the girlfriend of his recently divorced father. The house is being used by a royal heir and Kevin (in his usual style) manages to see off potential kidnappers whilst also making sure his parents get back together.
Based on a real scenario at the 1988 Olympics, this comedy focuses on the trials and tribulations of the first ever Jamaican bob-sled team and their coach (John Candy). Derice Bannock is due to qualify for Jamaica's track team but due to an accident his hopes are dashed. He finds out that a gold-medallist lives in Jamaica, former US resident and bob-sled champion Irv Blitzer (Candy) and persuades him to coach a team for entry into the 1988 Olympics. However, the team Bannock puts together has never sat in a bob-sled let alone seen snow.
Seymour, a shy young man working for a tyrannical florist, finds a vehicle for private and public success in the form of a maneating plant from outer space. The carniverous shrub helps him to become a celebrity, gets rid of his boss and clears the way for him to woo the girl of his dreams. However, its cannibalistic eating habits become insatiable and it's up to Seymour to cut it down to size. This comedy musical is based on the stage version of the cult movie, and features a memorable cameo performance from Steve Martin as a sadistic dentist.
When an unannounced, uninvited and unwelcome family of fun-loving misfits converge upon a lakeside resort to join their relatives for a summer of relaxation, the result is anything but restful in this raucous comedy starring Dan Aykroyd and John Candy. It's a vacationers worst nightmare, as wheeler-dealer Aykroyd, his sexually repressed wife and eerie twin daughters" join" the easygoing Candy and his straight-laced clan for a season of "fun" in die sun. Unfortunately, die only thing tliese two in-laws have in common is their intense dislike for each other. Soon, it's brother-in-law against brother-in-law in an uproarious and hilarious fight to the finish to see which one really knows how to enjoy The Great Outdoors.
Anthony Newley stars in this camp 1970s comedy as struggling playwright Sweeney, who is still in lust with his ex-wife Georgina (Stefanie Powers) despite her remarriage to wealthy construction boss Prince (Henry Ramer). In order to win back Georgina's favours, Sweeney embarks on an elaborate series of schemes and scams, from stinging his artist friend Moriarty (Isaac Hayes) for drinks and cash to a fake kidnapping plot that brings inept cops Broom and Kopek (John Candy and Lawrence Dane) bumbling after him.
Sequel to the 1977 'Rescuers'. The Rescuers, a male and female mouse duo (with the voices of Bob Newhart and Eva Gabor), are pressed into service to foil the machinations of an evil poacher in Australia. Upon their arrival Down Under, the mice find themselves with a Crocodile Dundee-style mouse for a guide.
There has been a considerable upsurge in interest in insect bio chemistry and physiology in recent years and this has been reflected in a notable expansion in the number of original papers in this field. Whereas insect physiology has tended to receive ample attention from reviewers, the same has not always been true for the more of insect research. This book is a venture to help biochemical aspects redress the balance. No attempt has been made to cover all aspects of insect biochemistry, but rather a few topics have been selected which seemed to us to merit a review at the present time. One reason for this increased interest in insect biochemistry is perhaps the growing realization that insects can be very useful organisms to act as model systems for the experimental study of general biochemical principles. One remembers, for instance, that Keilin's perceptive observations on the flight muscles of living bees and wax moths led to his discovery of the cytochromes. The fundamental unity of biochemistry has long been accepted as a dogma by the faithful and the insect kingdom provides no exception to it. The main biochemical processes in insects are being revealed as essentially the same as in other life forms but, as so often found in comparative biochemistry, there are interesting variations on the central theme.
