After his abdication Napoleon Bonaparte (Rod Steiger) is exiled to the island of Elba. However, he escapes to be reunited with his generals and troops, and mounts a last desperate bid for power at the what is now known as the Battle of Waterloo. He has, however, reckoned without the British forces led by Arthur Welsley, the Duke of Wellington, who had just returned from a successful campaign in Spain.

The craft houses a deadly plague which could threaten the existence of the entire universe. In 'Hostage', Travis tries to trap Blake by kidnapping his cousin, Inga. 'Countdown' sees Blake and crew coming to the aid of the planet Albian, whose population are dying from radiation poisoning. In 'Voice from the Past', a telepathic signal forces Blake to reroute the Liberator to an asteroid where Travis lies in wait. Whilst 'Gambit' sees Blake, Cally and Jenna visit a gambling world to find the man who knows the location of the Federation's Star One. Avon and Villa, meanwhile, choose to take Orac on an illicit gambling spree. In 'The Keeper', Blake tries to obtain the key to Star One from a tribal chief on the planet Goth. However, Travis has beaten him to it. Finally, 'Star One' sees Blake at last launch his attack on the Federation's headquarters, unaware that an alien fleet is poised to invade.

'Assassin' sees the crew under threat from an assassin called Cancer, and nobody knows what he looks like. In 'Games', the crew of Scorpio must play a series of deadly games to obtain a rare energy crystal. 'Sand' sees Tarrant stranded with Servalan on a remote planet. Romance is soon in the air, but so is deadly killer sand. In 'Gold', the Scorpio crew fall into a trap set by Servalan when they attempt to steal a valuable cargo. 'Orbit' sees a Federation scientist offer Avon the ultimate weapon, in return for Orac. In 'Warlord', Avon attempts to establish an anti-Federation alliance, but can he rely on the man he has chosen as a figurehead, warlord Zukan? And finally, 'Blake' sees Avon forced to seek a new leader for the floundering alliance. There is only one man for the job, of course: Roj Blake, now working as a bounty hunter on the planet Gauda Prime.
