Channel Kindness is a collection of fifty-one stories of kindness, bravery, and resilience from young people all over the world collected by the Born This Way Foundation and introduced by Lady Gaga. For Lady Gaga, kindness is the driving force behind everything she says and does. The quiet power of kindness can change the way we view one another, our communities, and even ourselves. She embodies this mission, and through her work, brings more kindness into our world every single day. Lady Gaga has always believed in the importance of being yourself, being kind to yourself and others, no matter who they are or where they come from. With that sentiment in mind, she and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, founded Born This Way Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making the world a kinder and braver place. Through the years, they’ve collected stories of kindness, bravery, and resilience from young people all over the world, proving that kindness truly is the universal language. And now, we invite you to read these stories and follow along as each and every young author finds their voice, just as Lady Gaga has found hers. Within these pages, you’ll meet young changemakers who found their inner strength, who prevailed in the face of bullies, who started their own social movements, who decided to break through the mental health stigma and share how they felt, who created safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth, and who have embraced kindness with every fiber of their being by helping others without the expectation of anything in return. Individually and collectively, the stories collected here prove that kindness not only saves lives but builds community. Kindness is inclusion, it is pride, it is empathy, it is compassion, it is self-respect and it is the guiding light to love. Kindness is always transformational, and its never-ending ripples result in even more kind acts that can change our lives, our communities, and our world.
A fresh, new pregnancy guide-the first complete functional medicine book-offering women and their partners a comprehensive approach to maintain and enhance health and wellness before, during, and after pregnancy. The Wise Woman's Guide to Your Healthiest Pregnancy and Birth combines the expertise of top-tier physical therapist Patricia Ladis-who works with superstar athletes, professional dancers, and celebrities-with holistic ob-gyn Dr. Anita Sadaty, a highly regarded ob-gyn with connections to celebrities like J-Lo. Together, they have devised a six-step protocol beginning the six months before conception continuing forty days post-birth and beyond, incorporating holistic principles that encourage optimal wellness for mother, partner, and baby. Whether they are in their 20's, 30's or 40's, this book empowers readers to be in tune with their bodies during all stages of pregnancy, and is the first book by a functional medicine dream-team aligning medical and structural body issues to avoid such potential pregnancy outcomes as osteoporosis, sciatica, pelvic prolapse, structural weakness, and postpartum depression. Each of the six stages organizes Ladis and Sadaty's holistic principles into five easy-to-follow aspects: Body, Movement, Breathing, Nourishment, and Wisdom. They include practical applications such as foods to help reduce internal inflammation, specific exercises-with instructive photos-in each stage, breathing techniques to lower stress, and "pearls of wisdom" backed by science exploring a multicultural history of this special time in a woman's life. For the first time, a pregnancy guide considers the importance of choices you make six months prior to conception, and the effect on genes. When both members of a couple are calm, fit, and well-nourished, the latest science suggests that together they are less likely to pass on negative genes to a child.
Translated into English from the Korean script (han'gul), the memoir of Lady Hong (1735-1815) of Hyegyong Palace is an autobiographical memoir. Known as "Hanjung nok" and dated 1796, it was prepared over a period of about eleven years, in the twilight years of Lady Hong's life as a vivid account of her personal life and its great tragedy. It is a compelling story of a young girl's introduction to court life; of her selection as a royal consort at the early age of ten; and the various events of her life. Lady Hong tells of her early fears on entering the court and how she came to terms with the deprivations which existed within the palace walls. The memoir explores woman's subservience to male rulers who were moulded by Confucian ideology and Lady Hong's fortitude and resolution in trying to prevent, or at least delay, her husband's inevitable demise.
Sunday, 8 January 1978 I have decided to keep a diary during Zelman's term of office as Governor General. I have kept diaries of three recent overseas journeys, and have been pleased that I had, because one forgets so much and the re-reading of a sentence can bring whole occasions, scenes, and otherwise forgotten things, vividly back to mind"". And so begins an extraordinary record of the life of a Governor General's wife. Lady Anna Cowen's edited diaries capture the day-to-day lifea "the wardrobe fittings, the running of an enormous householda "as well as the pomp and circumstance of vice-regal duties during the term Sir Zelman Cowen served as Australia's 19th Governor-General from 1977 to 1982.
With her royal insider's knowledge and historical insight, Lady Colin Campbell turns her attention to People of Colour and the Royals. She herself is strongly vested in the subject of colour, being the proud product of one of the most prominent families in the multi-racial world of Jamaica. When she was born there in 1949 that country had, although inadequate, more progressive and inclusive race relations than anywhere else. In her first eighteen years she lived through the transitional period from colonial heyday to independence in 1962, to the subsequent political and demographic changes. Jamaicans hold very dear the concept of their national motto 'Out of Many One People', and she understands the nuances whereby all Jamaicans, irrespective of colour, are regarded as members of the Black Community. Her lack of prejudice allows her to examine the sometimes difficult past with welcome objectivity and refreshing candour, and Jamaica has continued to spearhead many of the positive changes taking place in larger countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. Her book is full of welcome surprises. It takes her unique heritage, courage, insight and experience to write a book as illuminating and hopeful as People of Colour and the Royals. It is a work which she hopes will go some way to healing the divisions of the past and consolidating the unity of the present into an even more cohesive future.

While accepting the Video of the Year award for "Bad Romance" at the MTV Video Music Awards, Gaga announced the album's title before declaring that she promised that she would reveal it if she won that award. This revelation was followed by Gaga singing a few lines from the title song: "I'm beautiful in my way, 'cause God makes no mistakes; I'm on the right track baby, I was Born This Way." Given as a Christmas "gift" to her fans, Gaga announced via Twitter the release dates of the album and its lead single at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day 2011. Supplementing this announcement came a black-and-white photograph in which Gaga is "nude from the waist down, with her hair blowing about, and sporting a jacket with Born This Way emblazoned in what looks like bedazzled jewels." Upon the performance of a ballad, "You and I", on Today's Toyota Concert Series in July 2010, Gaga confirmed that it would be featured on the album yet the song bared "a different sound than the [rest of the] album." The track was then added to her set list at The Monster Ball. In a further atypical manner, she released the complete set of lyrics to "Born This Way" on her official Twitter page in late January 2011. To promote the album, Lady Gaga has released songs on Farmville (Gagaville). Zynga made a farm for her and tasks had to be completed in order to unlock streamings for three unheard songs from the album. |
