Direct2D is a 2D and vector graphics application programming interface (API) designed by Microsoft and implemented in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, and also Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 (with Platform Update installed). Direct2D offers high quality and fast performance while maintaining interoperability with GDI/GDI+ APIs and Direct3D/DirectDraw APIs. It can take advantage of hardware acceleration through compatible graphics cards. Direct2D is a native code API based on C++ which can be called by managed code and uses a "lightweight COM" approach just like Direct3D, with minimal amount of abstraction. However, unlike Direct3D and similarily to GDI/GDI+ and WPF, Direct2D is an "immediate mode" rendering API with simple BeginDraw/Draw/EndDraw calls; Direct2D has no concept of a "scene" and does not use retained tree structures, and the rendering state is preserved between drawing calls.

It currently has thirty open National Rail stations, through there were once well over a hundred. Between 1959 and 1970 much of the network was closed, including more than two thirds of Norfolk's railway stations, several main lines and most of the branch lines - leaving only a core network in place. Several of the former routes have been re-opened as heritage lines such as the North Norfolk Railway and the Mid-Norfolk Railway.

An ultrafilter may be considered as a finitely additive measure. Then every subset of X is either considered "almost everything" (has measure 1) or "almost nothing" (has measure 0). If A is a subset of X, then either A or X A is an element of the ultrafilter (here X A is the relative complement of A in X; that is, the set of all elements of X that are not in A). The concept can be generalized to Boolean algebras or even to general partial orders, and has many applications in set theory, model theory, and topology.

In computing, Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) is an open-source collection of tools for processing and displaying xy and xyz datasets, including rasterisation, filtering and other image processing operations, and various kinds of map projections. The software comes with a comprehensive collection of free GIS data, such as coast lines, rivers, political borders and coordinates of other geographic objects. Users convert further data (like satellite imagery and digital elevation models) from other sources and import them. GMT stores the resulting maps and diagrams in PostScript (PS) or Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) format. Users operate the system from the command line: this enables scripting and the automation of routine tasks. More or less comprehensive graphic user interfaces are available from third parties, as well as web applications, bringing the system's functionality online.

They were presented by a Hindu scholar and mathematician, Jagadguru Swami Sri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji Maharaja, during the early part of the 20th century.Tirthaji claims that he found the s tras after years of studying the Vedas, a set of sacred ancient Hindu texts. The calculation strategies provided by Vedic mathematics are creative and useful, and can be applied in a number of ways to calculation methods in arithmetic and algebra, most notably within the education system.Vedic math and the Trachtenberg system are very similar to each other. Many of the arithmetic computational strategies are based on the same concepts.
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles 'Umar ibn Abi Rabi'ah (November 644, Mecca - 712/719, Mecca) was an Arabic poet from the modern-day country of Saudi Arabia. He is known for his love poetry and for being one of the originators of the literary form ghazel in Islamic literature. The ghazal is a poetic form consisting of rhyming couplets and a refrain, with each line sharing the same meter. A ghazal may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain. The form is ancient, originating in 6th century pre-Islamic Arabic verse. It is derived from the Arabian panegyric qasida. The structural requirements of the ghazal are similar in stringency to those of the Petrarchan sonnet. In its style and content it is a genre which has proved capable of an extraordinary variety of expression around its central themes of love and separation. It is one of the principal poetic forms which the Indo-Perso-Arabic civilization offered to the eastern Islamic world.

People use career portfolios to apply to jobs, apply to college or training programs, get a higher salary, show transferable skills, and to track personal development. They are more in-depth than a resume, which is used to summarize the above in one or two pages. Career portfolios serve as proof of one's skills, abilities, and potential in the future. Career portfolios are becoming common in high schools, college, and workforce development. Many school programs will have you create, update, and use a career portfolio before moving on to the next level in life.

During World War II's early stages, Volvo decided that a new smaller car delivering good fuel economy would assure the company's future. A raw materials shortage during the war drove home the point that an automobile should be smaller, and also complicated Volvo's ability to mass-produce the product. In 1944, when the car was finally introduced to a car-hungry public, response was very positive and orders poured in from the Swedish population. It was another three years though, in 1947, before the production was made available.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Rudolf Kreitlein (b. November 14, 1919 - d.) was a German international football referee and tailor in the 1950s and 1960s. Kreitlein is, perhaps, most well-known for his refereeing of the 1966 World Cup quarter-final match between England and Argentina in which he dismissed Antonio Rattin from the field of play in the 35th minute of the game for dissent. Rattin initially refused to leave the pitch, arguing furiously with Kreitlein (even though neither man understood each other's native language) and the game was held up for several minutes until Rattin reluctantly departed. It was also during that game that Jack Charlton was cautioned, only to discover the fact the next day from the newspaper report. As a result of this incident Ken Aston developed the idea of yellow cards and red cards to aid on-field communication in football. Kreitlein, who had never seen the match, requested a copy of the game from the Football Association in 2006. Kreitlein retired from international competition following the game.

Al-Kit b al-mukhta ar f h s b al- abr wa'l-muq bala (Arabic for "The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing," in Arabic script ' '), also known under a shorter name spelled as Hisab al-jabr w'al-muqabala, Kitab al-Jabr wa-l-Muqabala and other transliterations) is a mathematical book written in Arabic, in approximately AD 820 by the Persian mathematician, Muhammad ibn M s al-Khw rizm .The term "algebra" is derived from the al- abr in the title of this book, which is considered the foundational text of modern algebra. The al- abr provided an exhaustive account of solving for the positive roots of polynomial equations up to the second degree, and introduced the fundamental methods of "reduction" and "balancing," referring to the transposition of subtracted terms to the other side of an equation, that is, the cancellation of like terms on opposite sides of the equation.

Voxel based morphometry (VBM) is a neuroimaging analysis technique that allows investigation of focal differences in brain anatomy, using the statistical approach of so-called statistical parametric mapping. In traditional morphometry, volume of the whole brain or its subparts is measured by drawing regions of interest (ROIs) on images from brain scanning and calculating the volume enclosed. However, this is time consuming and can only provide measures of rather large areas. Smaller differences in volume may be overlooked. VBM registers every brain to a template, which gets rid of most of the large differences in brain anatomy among people. Then the brain images are smoothed so that each voxel represents the average of itself and its neighbors. Finally, the image volume is compared across brains at every voxel.
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Homeorhesis, derived from the Greek for "similar flow," is a concept encompassing dynamical systems which return to a trajectory, as opposed to systems which return to a particular state, which is termed homeostasis. The word itself is a little-used term of art in biology, where it describes the tendency of developing or changing organisms to continue development or change towards a given state, even if disturbed in development. The term was first coined by C.H. Waddington, on or before 1940, along with the related term chreod, meaning "necessary path," which is the trajectory to which the system tends to return. In ecology the concept is important as an element of the Gaia theory, where the system under consideration is the ecological balance of different forms of life on the planet. It was Lynn Margulis, the coauthor of Gaia hypotheses, who wrote in particular that only homeorhetic and not homeostatic balances are involved in the theory. That is, the composition of Earth's atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere are regulated around "set points" as in homeostasis, but those set points change with time.

Patrick Lachman (born March 30, 1970) was the guitarist of the band Diesel Machine (from 1996 to 2001), before joining the solo band from (at that time former) Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford, titled Halford. After the release of Halford's debut album Resurrection, Lachman's other band Diesel Machine got the chance to release their own debut album, Torture Test, which had already been recorded several years earlier. With Halford he released a live album in 2001, Live Insurrection, and another studio album in 2002, Crucible. 2003 saw the release of a Halford EP called Fourging The Furnace, but in that year Rob Halford also announced he would return to Judas Priest. This looked like the end of the Halford band, so Patrick joined with former Pantera guitarist "Dimebag Darrell" Abbott and his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott in a new band called Damageplan, as their vocalist. Their debut album, New Found Power, was released in 2004.

He was the most prominent member of a famous musical family, being the nephew of Henri Casadesus and Marius Casadesus, husband of Gaby Casadesus, and father of Jean Casadesus. Robert Casadesus was born in Paris and studied there at the Conservatoire with Louis Diemer, taking a Premier Prix (First Prize) in 1913 and the Prix Diemer in 1920. Robert then entered the class of Lucien Capet, who had exceptional influence. Capet had founded a famous quartet that bore his name (Capet Quartet) and in which two of Robert's uncles played: Henri and Marcel. The Quartet often rehearsed in the Casadesus home, and so it was that Robert was initiated into chamber music. The Beethoven Quartets held no secret for him-he knew them backwards and forwards without ever having played them Beginning in 1922, Casadesus collaborated with the composer Maurice Ravel on a project to create piano rolls of a number of his works. Casadesus and Ravel also shared the concert platform in France, Spain and England.
