writing research papers and career management In order to be truly
successful in the biomedical professions, one must have excellent
communication skills and networking abilities. Of equal importance
is the possession of sufficient clinical knowledge, as well as a
proficiency in conducting research and writing scientific papers.
This unique and important book provides medical students and
residents with the most commonly encountered topics in the academic
and professional lifestyle, teaching them all of the practical
nuances that are often only learned through experience. Written by
a team of experienced professionals to help guide younger
researchers, A Guide to the Scientific Career: Virtues,
Communication, Research and Academic Writing features ten sections
composed of seventy-four chapters that cover: qualities of research
scientists; career satisfaction and its determinants; publishing in
academic medicine; assessing a researcher's scientific productivity
and scholarly impact; manners in academics; communication skills;
essence of collaborative research; dealing with manipulative
people; writing and scientific misconduct: ethical and legal
aspects; plagiarism; research regulations, proposals, grants, and
practice; publication and resources; tips on writing every type of
paper and report; and much more. An easy-to-read source of
essential tips and skills for scientific research Emphasizes good
communication skills, sound clinical judgment, knowledge of
research methodology, and good writing skills Offers comprehensive
guidelines that address every aspect of the medical
student/resident academic and professional lifestyle Combines
elements of a career-management guide and publication guide in one

Career: Virtues, Communication, Research and Academic Writing is an
excellent interdisciplinary text that will appeal to all medical
students and scientists who seek to improve their writing and
communication skills in order to make the most of their chosen
career.
Hypotheses are fundamental to all sciences, including medicine.
They play a critical role in motivating the development of science,
since interesting and important hypotheses foster the diversity and
debate upon which the scientific process depends. It is necessary
to learn and understand how to assess a process, realise and
discuss details and consequently launch a hypothesis. This book
offers a number of novel, non-mainstream hypotheses in various
states of development from authors with relevant expertise and
experience.
Building on the strength of the previous two editions, Bergman's
Comprehensive Encyclopedia of Human Anatomic Variation is the third
installment of the classic human anatomical reference launched by
Dr. Ronald Bergman. With both new and updated entries, and now
illustrated in full color, the encyclopedia provides an even more
comprehensive reference on human variation for anatomists,
anthropologists, physicians, surgeons, medical personnel, and all
students of anatomy. Developed by a team of editors with extensive
records publishing on both human variation and normal human
anatomy, Bergman's Comprehensive Encyclopedia of Human Anatomic
Variation is the long awaited update to this classic reference.
History of Anatomy: An International Perspective is unique in its
global approach to studying the development of human anatomy.
Though it references widely known anatomists, such as Aristotle,
Galen, and Bell, the book also pay homage to less famous
contributors to the field and explains their findings. This
comprehensive history of the morphology of humans serves as a
useful guide to anatomists, anthropologists, physicians, surgeons,
and anyone interested in the early history of medicine and surgery.
Anatomy for Plastic Surgery of the Face, Head, and Neck details the
complex regional anatomy of the face, head and neck, providing
plastic surgery and otolaryngology residents with a solid
anatomical knowledge base. There are many danger zones involved in
operating on the head and neck, and the detailed knowledge of
anatomy that readers gain from this reference will help them avoid
the surgical mishaps that often result in patient disfigurement.
Key Features: Complex regional anatomy of the head and neck
detailed with drawings, intraoperative photos and radiologic images
Online access to videos in which authors walk readers through the
anatomy of the face, head and neck Covers the latest anatomical
topics, including arterial supply of the facial skin and sensory
nerves of the head and neck This excellent anatomical reference
will be read cover to cover by young plastic surgeons and
otolaryngologists, as well as residents in these specialties. More
experienced surgeons will refer to it whenever they need to learn
about an unfamiliar area of the head and neck.

This long overdue update of Sydney Sunderland s classic "Nerves and
Nerve Injuries" is a must-have for clinicians and researchers
dealing with the PNS and neuropathy. The third has been created as
an edited work emphasizing the importance of considering the
anatomical, physiological, pathological, and clinical aspects of
the nervous system in concert for a better understanding of nerve
injuries and their treatment. Constituting an organized review of
our current understanding of peripheral nerve injury and repair,
this edition also makes more readily available analyses of the
various morphological and topographical aspects of the PNS.
Major sections of the work will address: anatomical and
physiological features of peripheral nerve fibers and nerve trunks;
degeneration, regeneration a classification of nerve injury;
clinico-pathological considerations; bones, joints, muscles, and
motor function; peripheral sensory mechanisms; peripheral
sympathetic mechanisms; diagnosis and treatment; and individual
nerves.
Long overdue update of the classic reference on nerves and nerve
injuriesReviews the anatomical and physiologic features of
peripheral nerves; mechanisms of degeneration and regeneration of
nerve trunks; the cutaneous system, the sympathetic nervous system,
and each peripheral nerve in the bodyAddresses clinic-pathologic
considerations; considers nerve injuries on bones, joints, muscles,
and motor function; and offers an approach to the diagnosis and
treatment of nerve injuries.Content increased by 15 percent over
the original work, richly illustrated with full color throughout,
with a companion website hosting video footage of surgical
procedures for appropriate chaptersEdited work with chapters

Nerves and Nerve Injuries is a must-have for clinicians and
researchers dealing with the Peripheral Nervous System and
neuropathy. An indispensable work for anyone studying the nerves or
treating patients with nerve injuries, these books will become the
'go to' resource in the field. The nerves are treated in a
systematic manner, discussing details such as their anatomy (both
macro- and microscopic), physiology, examination (physical and
imaging), pathology, and clinical and surgical interventions. The
authors contributing their expertise are international experts on
the subject. The books cover topics from detailed nerve anatomy and
embryology to cutting-edge knowledge related to treatment, disease
and mathematical modeling of the nerves. Nerves and Nerve Injuries
Volume 2 focuses on pain, treatment, injury, disease and future
directions in the field. This volume also addresses new information
regarding neural interfaces, stem cells, medical and surgical
treatments, and medical legal issues following nerve injury.
Despite international agreements to prohibit the use of chemical
warfare agents, there is still significant concern over their use
in different parts of the world. Moreover, the victims of earlier
use continue to present a challenge to clinicians. Studies of the
effects of mustard gas at the tissue, cell and molecular levels
have thrown light on basic questions in biology, and these studies
merit a comprehensive review. There are existing volumes on this
topic and on related toxicological and ecotoxicological studies,
but this proposed book is much more up to date and focuses
specifically on the most widely-used chemical warfare agent
(mustard gas, otherwise known as sulfur mustard). Also, the most
relevant preceding volumes are outdated, not readily available, and
broadly focused. By contrast, this title is more clearly focused on
toxicological mechanisms, crucial as a basis for future
developments in the field. The editors believe this book will
provide a fully comprehensive view on mustard gas, with attention
to recent developments, in a way other titles have not, filling a
gap in literature on chemical warfare agents.
