Triple bill of zombie films. 'Zombie Apocalypse' (2011) is a made-for-TV horror starring Ving Rhames in which a group of human survivors of a zombie outbreak set out to make it to an uninfected island. Ramona (Taryn Manning), Billy (Eddie Steeples) and Kevin (Gerald Webb) are almost killed when they head out to search for food. Fortunately for them, they meet a tough group that includes Henry (Rhames) and Cassie (Lesley-Ann Brandt), who take on the zombies with weapons as diverse as a sledgehammer and a samurai sword. 'Abraham Lincoln Vs Zombies' (2012) is a tongue-in-cheek zombie horror in which Abraham Lincoln is distracted from his composition of the Gettysburg Address by a more pressing concern - an outbreak of the undead. Lincoln (Bill Oberst Jr.) leads a team of Secret Service agents to the area to try and contain the disaster. There is a suggestion that Lincoln may have some experience of dealing with zombies from his past and he takes under his wing a youngster by the name of Teddy Roosevelt (Canon Kuipers), who may have a role of his own to play in the American story. 'The Dead' (2010) is a zombie horror set in West Africa. Robert Freeman stars as Lieutenant Brian Murphy, a military engineer who finds himself stranded in the wilderness of Burkina Faso after a zombie outbreak lays waste to civilisation. Eventually he teams up with Sergeant Daniel Dembele (Prince David Oseia), a local soldier who has gone AWOL from the army to search for his missing son.

Made-for-TV action-horror following the aftermath of a zombie outbreak in San Francisco. The survivors, grouped together on Alcatraz Island, home of the famous prison, contain a number of scientists intent on developing a cure for the virus. Led by Dr Dan Halpern (LeVar Burton), they seek to discover the nature of the highly infectious process by which humans are transformed into the undead. However, when the prison is besieged by the zombie hordes some stark choices await those within its walls. In the midst of arguments over how to proceed groups form around the formidable Dr Lynn Snyder (Mariel Hemingway) and the loose cannon Caspian (Danny Trejo). Can they come up with a successful plan of action or will the undead consume them all?

The Diver's Tale (Paperback, 2nd edition): Nick Lyon The Diver's Tale (Paperback, 2nd edition)
Nick Lyon; Foreword by Andy Torbet
R288 Discovery Miles 2 880 Shipped within 7 - 12 working days

Britain is an island nation so, unsurprisingly, scuba diving is a popular British pastime enjoyed by some 50,000 keen participants and just as many of the armchair variety. A carefully-structured programme of training ensures that the British diver is well--prepared for the challenging conditions which may be encountered beneath our seas. Or does it? How many trainee divers were taught about the perils of high-speed testicular trauma during descent? Or the dangers of having sex in a tent with a deaf person? Why bacon should be in your first aid kit. How to build a space shuttle using salvaged ammunition? Or why the name Valerie is so very special? During a 40 year plus odyssey through the strange and exotic world of British diving, Nick Lyon and his disparate collection of buddies have answered all these questions from personal experience, and many more besides. It may not be pretty, it may not be painless but to those in the know, it's real British diving. This is not a diving manual - quite the opposite. How not to do it, why not to do it, when not to do it and who not to do it with. Amusing, frequently embarrassing, often unpleasant and occasionally tragic, the book plunges into the world of the real British diver!

Any angler who has ever been out-fished by a beginner with a twig and some twine or questioned whether bass are smarter than he is will be in good company here. Hilarious Fishing Cartoons pokes fun at every kind of angling absurdity. Tiers struggling to tie microscopic flies, bass fishermen who catch more boots than bass, weekenders loaded down with every gizmo and piece of tackle in the shop, and fanatical, freezing ice fishermen doomed to drill and not grill are all represented. Troy's pen is deft and clever, and his one-liners are truly side-splitting. The next time your line gets so tangled you're ready to curse or quit fishing forever, remember these cartoons and you may just find yourself chuckling instead. No one understands the challenges and frustrations of the outdoorsman's life like John Troy, and no one makes the maddening business of hunting so riotously funny. Anyone still kicking himself over a missed shot, anyone wishing that his hunting dog had paid more attention in obedience school, or anyone who has ever been confounded by the antics of a pesky squirrel will enjoy this hugely delightful collection. In typical John Troy style, we are treated to one-panel lampoons of shooters who can't hit stuffed animals, bears that beat up hunters, and ducks that make their own decoys. They're funny because they're true. Hilarious Hunting Cartoons will delight both novice and experienced hunters and will make an excellent gift for yourself or a passionate hunter you know.

Selective Trout - The Last Word on Stream Entomology and Aquatic Insect Imitation (Paperback): Doug Swisher, Carl Richards Selective Trout - The Last Word on Stream Entomology and Aquatic Insect Imitation (Paperback)
Doug Swisher, Carl Richards; Illustrated by Dave Whitlock; Foreword by Nick Lyons

When it was originally published in 1971, Selective Trout was universally acclaimed as the most revolutionary approach to aquatic insect imitation in the twentieth century. Using common sense, science, and imagination, authors Doug Swisher and Carl Richards developed a wide array of new patterns that were in sharp contrast to those offerings used by American fly fishermen up to that time. Their radical no-hackle dry fly, in particular, proved to be a more convincing, natural silhouette than anything anglers had ever seen before. With hatch charts covering different regions of the country, and featuring detailed tying instructions for flies that could be used in those regions, all liberally illustrated, the book provided anglers with a new arsenal of deadly fly patterns. Thirty years later, and after more than 200,000 copies of the first edition had been sold, a Thirtieth Anniversary Edition was brought out. Updated and revised by the authors, with new observations on trout behavior as well as detailed instructions on how to keep useful fishing logs, the book also featured detailed appendices on terrestrials, mayflies, caddisflies, and stoneflies. Not only that, but the new edition included hundreds of color illustrations by the renowned artist and fly-fishing innovator Dave Whitlock. It's hard to imagine how anything could top that. In this new paperback edition of Selective Trout we know that we can't top what's been done previously. But we do know that this deserves to stay in print, because it's the type of book that every fly fisherman should own and read. To add a new twist to this new edition, what we have done is added a new introduction by Doug Swisher (Carl Richards passed away in 2006), plus a new foreword by Nick Lyons, the book publisher who had the foresight to get behind the book in the first place.

Return to the River remains one of the finest books ever written about the salmon and has won its place as an angler's and naturalist's classic. Drawn back again to spawn in the stream that hatched them, the deep-sea salmon, the great silver chinooks, return as inevitably as the September rains. Return to the River captures the whole sweep of the chinook migration in every significant detail: the departure seaward of the millions of small fry in the spring of the second year, the saltwater life of the free-swimming schools in the deeps beyond Puget Sound, the later return of the survivors sixty- and eighty-pounders that leap against every obstacle, striving to complete their lives at last among upland shallows barely deep enough to contain them. Roderick Haig-Brown, observing with the trained eye of the naturalist what he records with a novelist's skill, here sets forth the dramatic life history of one salmon from her hatching through her mating the fulfillment of her life cycle. "The supple, rapid style, vigorous as the great fish itself," wrote Joseph Henry Jackson in the San Francisco Chronicle, "makes this account as easy reading as fiction."
