Galleons first appeared in the mid 16th century. For close to 150 years the Galleon was the warship par excellence. The San Francisco II Galleon had three decks, an abundance of equipment and was characterized by its imposing and robust design.

In April 1789, the HMS Bounty left Tahiti and whilst passing through the Endeavour Channel, a number of the crew staged a mutiny. Captain Blight and 18 loyal crew members were forced by the mutineers into one of the the three small life boats and were cast adrift. This craft, powered by a large sail and with four men rowing at a time, covered 3600 miles until they reached the safety of Timor.

This beautiful model is a traditional sailing ship used along the coasts of the Arabian Penisula, India and East Africa. Up to the 1960's dhows made their commercial journeys from the Persian Gulf to East Africa using only sails as a means of propulsion.

The Saint Malo was first used in France after the war of 1870. By then

the Americans had already been using them for some time in the

schooners working off the coast of Massachusetts and New Scotland.

The Virgina was designed in 1819 and launched that same year. Also know as "schooners", these boats offered great maneuverability and elegance. The Virginia was equipped with a central swivel mounted carronade. Being lighty armed with high speed capability the Virginia was used as a coast guard boat for pursuit and intercepting tasks.

This kit includes pre-cut plywood keel section and frames, and double planked hull. Blocks and deadeyes are yellow boxwood. Eyelets, bracers, belaying pins, and cabin door hinges are brass, as are the 250 miniture nails used to fasten the hull and deck planking.

The HMS Endeavour was launched in 1765. She was prepared three years later for a voyage under the command of Captain James Cook. This is the longboat from the Endeavour.
