  • Find what you are looking for

    How to search

Our search engine is very simple to use. Just type any number of words about the product that you're looking for, and the search engine will return all products that match all of the words. The more the words or the more specific the words, the more specific the search.

The words that you enter can be in any order, and can be taken from any part of the product. For example, to find books written by a particular author, just enter the authors name. If you're looking for a particular book by that author, you could add a word or two from the book's title. Of course, if you know the ISBN, you could just search for that.

The search engine does not do word stemming. This means that for example, 'run' is different to 'runs', which is different to 'running'. If the product you're looking for could contain any of a number of variations or alternate spellings of a word, then try individual searches for each variation.

The search engine always searches for products within the selected product tab, which is displayed in the tab list below the search text. You can change the category that will be searched by selecting a different one, or by selecting a sub-category within the browse tree on the left hand side of the page.

If you can't find what you're looking for, always try searching in a higher level category, as it's possible that it might not be catalogued, or it might be catalogued differently to what you're expecting. If you find a product that is mis-filed, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to let us know about it.

    Happy hunting!

    Searching tips:

    • You will always search within the category that you are currently looking. Therefore, rather click on the correct product type tab at the top before searching.
    • If you know the ISBN or barcode of the item, type it in exactly with no spaces in between.
    • Try using fewer words, leaving in the most important keywords.  Remember that our search engine will only give you results for all the words you type in.
    • Try taking out any numbers you've typed in (for example '2' or 'two')
    • If you get too many results when searching for the title, also type in an author/artist's name.
    • Books are sometimes missing an author's first name, so try not to include it in your search.
    • To remove a keyword from your search results, insert the word into the search engine with a minus attached to the left of the word (without a space), for example: -keyword .
    • Make sure that you are using the correct spelling.  If you are not sure, type it into Google - usually Google will say "do you mean..." if you did not spell it correctly.
    • If the word you are entering could be one word or two separate words, try both variations.
    • Try changing words such as 'Management' to 'Managing' if you're not sure which version is correct.
    • If you can't find what you are looking for, just send us an email with all the details you have on the item, and we will let you know if it is available. Our email address is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

    How to browse

All products at Loot.co.za are grouped into hierarchical categories. It is possible for one product to belong to several categories. The highest level of categories corresponds with the tabs at the top of the page.

If you hover your mouse over a high level category, a drop down tab menu containing the relevant sub-categories will appear below the high level category. Clicking on a category in this list will result in the sub-categories within that category being displayed in a navigation tree on the left hand side of the page. By selecting any of the categories in this list, products from the selected category will be displayed on the main part of the page. Products are ordered by popularity with the most popular products being displayed first. By using the See more buttons on the right side of the page, and page numbers and <prev and next> buttons at the bottom of the page, it is possible to page through the products in the category.

Some categories in the navigation tree have more detailed sub-categories. If you click on one that does have sub-categories, the sub-categories will be listed (indented) below the parent category and the list of products displayed on the page will relate to the category that is selected.

    Detail

We currently offer four methods of delivery.

    • Postal delivery. We use the SA Post Office to deliver to any valid South African postal address. We will send you a tracking number by email when we dispatch your order and you should receive a post office collection slip about 2 - 5 days later. You can then collect the delivery from your local post office counter. Not all items can be delivered by post.  On eligible orders, delivery charge is calculated based on mass, value, and number of items in the order.
    • Courier. These are door-to-door services. The delivery address must be a physical address, and cannot be a post office box. Someone will need to be available at the address to receive the delivery. Deliveries are made during business hours from Monday to Friday. We currently offer three courier options.
      • Priority courier. In main centres, this will reach you the next business day after we dispatch your order.
      • Standard courier. In main centres, this will reach you within 1- 2 business days of dispatch.
      • Economy courier. In main centres, this will reach you within 1 - 3 business days of dispatch.

Main centres include properties within a 50km radius of the major cities in South Africa. If you are not in a main centre, it may take a few days longer. We do not deliver by courier to plots, farms, mines, military bases, major chain stores, power stations, game reserves and lodges, airports or harbours, and should your delivery address fall into one of these categories you will be liable for the extra costs incurred in delivering or returning the parcel.

    • Overnight post office counter. This is a next business day service where the parcel will be ready for collection from your local post office counter one business day after we dispatch it. If you are not in a main centre, it may take 1-2 days. We offer delivery of parcels up to 2kg for R35, or for free if the order value is over R250. Delivery on orders over 2kg is calculated based on mass, value, and number of items in the order.

Once you are signed up for 3D Secure, any new payments you make online with your credit card should automatically redirect you to your bank's 3D Secure system for authentication.  Your bank will then SMS a one-time pin to your cell phone. You will need to enter this pin on the website to authenticate the transaction.

Only you and your bank have access to the one-time pin.

Visa call their 3D Secure system Verified-by-Visa.  MasterCard call their system SecureCode.

How to sign up for 3D Secure

    Contact your bank to enrol:

    Absa - https://acsabsa.bankserv.co.za/Activation
First National Bank - Log on to FNB Online Banking
    Nedbank - https://acsnedcor.bankserv.co.za/Activation
    Standard Bank - https://acssb.bankserv.co.za/Activation?fiID=3

If your bank is not listed above, please contact your bank for more information.  Not all credit card issuers currently support 3D Secure (for example American Express and Diner’s Club).

If you’re not enrolled in 3D Secure

If your bank is 3D Secure compliant, you do need to enrol with 3D Secure in order to make payments online with your credit card.  If your issuing bank is not 3D Secure compliant, you may still use your credit card. We will contact you if we are unable to accept the payment.  Alternatively, we do accept payments by EFT or deposit into our account, and also accept cash payments at our office.

Wishlists

  • Creating and managing your wishlists

To use wishlists or to buy goods from Loot.co.za, you need to be a registered customer. If you're not already registered at Loot.co.za, click on the Register button on the top of our web page.

Our wishlists allow you keep lists of products that you're interested in. You can also use them as a way of listing items that you would be interested in receiving notification as to when a particular items becomes available to order or if there is a reduction in price.

Wishlists can be either private or public. Only you are able to see your private wishlists. Other Loot.co.za shoppers can see your public wishlists if they know your email address, and can select items from the list to buy for you. Other customers can see only the unallocated items in your wishlist, so we prevent you getting the same gift twice!

You can set up as many wishlists as you want to, giving each a different name. This can be useful if you want to separate things that you want to buy for yourself from those that you want other people to buy for you. In this case, you could use two wishlists, the first private and the second public. If you have a family, you could set up a wishlist for each family member.

To create a wishlist, go to your Wishlists page by clicking on the Wishlists button at the top right of the page and click the Add new wishlist button. You may be asked to enter your password at this point. On the next screen, type in a unique name for the wishlist and check the box if you want the wishlist to be private. Now press the Submit button.

You will see an Add to wishlist button on every product detail page. Just click it to add the product to your wishlist. If you have several wishlists, a combo-box next to the button lets you select the target wishlist. If you want more than one of an item, you can add it to the wishlist again.

Your wishlists page always lists all your wishlists. To change the settings for any wishlist, click the corresponding Change wishlist settings button. The form that follows allows you to change the name or privacy setting for the wishlist, or to assign a delivery address to the wishlist. Assigning a delivery address to a wishlist is optional and makes it easier for other customers to deliver gifts to you. Note that assigning a delivery address to a public wishlist means that other people will be able to access the address.

Should you wish to remove items from your wishlist, go to your wishlists page, and press the Delete button next to the item to remove. If you want to remove all the items on the wishlist, press the Clear this wishlist button. If you want to delete the entire wishlist, press the Delete this wishlist button.

When someone else looks at your public wishlist, they will only see those items that haven't yet been put in someone else's cart or order. When viewing you own wishlist, you will always see all the items, whether they are allocated or not. Items that are allocated include information on whose cart or order includes those items.

  • Buying gifts from wishlists belonging to other people

To use wishlists or to buy goods from Loot.co.za, you need to be a registered customer. If you're not already registered at Loot.co.za, click on the Register button on the top of our web page.

To use someone else's wishlist to buy a gift for them, the first step is to find their wishlist. You can find the wishlist by typing in their email address in the space provided on the wishlists page, and then pressing the Search button to display it.

To buy an item from the wishlist, first click on the item's title or image to bring up the detail page for that product. Now press the Add to cart button to add that item to your cart. If there is no Add to cart button on the detail page, it means that the product is not currently available and you will have to choose another item.

After you've added the item to your cart, that item is reserved for you to buy and no-one else will be able to buy the same item. You can verify that the item in your cart is linked to the wishlist by pressing the Your cart button at the top of the page. Next to the item it should say From a wishlist belonging to ... If you delete the item from your cart, it automatically becomes available for someone else to purchase again.

Gift vouchers

  • Sending a gift voucher

All you need to send a gift voucher to someone is their email address. The person you are sending the voucher to does not need to be registered at Loot.co.za when you create the voucher, but they will need to register before they can claim the voucher.

To send someone a voucher, you need to be a registered customer. If you're not already registered at Loot.co.za, click on the Register button on the top of our web page.

To create a voucher, first go to your Gifts and Wishlists page. Now press the Send a gift voucher button. At this point, you may need to enter your password before the voucher form is displayed.

On the voucher form, fill in the amount for the voucher, and the email address of the person to send the voucher to. If you want to send a message along with the voucher, just type it into the space provided. The message sent will be formatted exactly as you type it in, with line breaks and spacing preserved.

Finally, if you know that the recipient is already a registered Loot.co.za customer, you may want to click on the checkbox at the bottom of the form. When you check this box, we will verify that the recipients email address is registered at Loot.co.za, and we will prevent anyone else from claiming the voucher.

When you're happy with the information on the voucher form, press the Pay for this voucher button to choose a payment method. From this point onward, the voucher will be listed on your voucher history page.

On the next screen, you can choose how you would like to pay for the voucher. Just select the appropriate option and follow the instructions provided. It's that easy!

We will send you an email message confirming the voucher immediately. Once we have approved payment for the voucher, we will send it to the recipient. At the same time, we will send you another message letting you know that the voucher has been activated. We will also let you know when the recipient claims the voucher.

    Notes:

    • If your account has a positive cash balance, that will be used first when paying for the voucher.
    • If the balance on its own is sufficient to pay for the voucher, you will not be asked to select a payment method.
    • Vouchers may be used to pay for orders at Loot.co.za, but they may not be redeemed for cash or used to pay for other vouchers.
  • Claiming a voucher

To claim a voucher, you need to be a registered customer.  If you're not already registered at Loot.co.za, click on the Register button on the top of our web page.

To claim your voucher, first make a note of the 10 character voucher code listed on the voucher. It's easiest to highlight it and then press Control-C to copy it to the clipboard so that you don't type in the wrong code by accident. You will be able to paste it into the correct space later by pressing Control-V.

If you received a promotional voucher from Loot.co.za, you can only claim the voucher during the checkout process. Simply add the items you want to your trolley and click the Checkout button on your cart. You will find a space to paste in your voucher code on the payment screen of the checkout process.

If you received a gift voucher from someone you know, you could claim it during the checkout process as outlined above, but you can also claim it to your customer account for later use. To do this, go to your gifts and wishlists page. Now fill-in the 10 character voucher code in the space provided, and press the Claim voucher button. If the voucher is claimed successfully, the next screen will confirm that the voucher amount has been added to your account.

    Notes:

    • Once you've claimed a voucher, the voucher amount is added to your voucher balance, and may be used to pay for future orders. You do not have to spend the entire voucher on one order, and you also use the voucher to pay for several different orders.
    • Vouchers may be used to pay for orders at Loot.co.za, but they may not be redeemed for cash or used to pay for other vouchers.
    • If you have any orders waiting for payment at the time that you claim your voucher, the credit from the voucher will automatically be allocated to those orders.

Referral program

The Loot.co.za referral program is a program whereby any of our customers can earn vouchers in return for referring new customers to Loot.co.za. You can also find out more about the referral program by consulting the referral FAQ. You can refer people you know by sending them an email message (or we can send one on your behalf). You can also refer people that visit your website by including Loot.co.za product links or banner ads on your web pages.

You will earn a R50 voucher to spend on purchases of R250.00 or more, for each new customer that you refer. Referral vouchers are issued on completion of the referred customer's first order. These vouchers are not transferable and may not be exchanged for cash.

    Links

Referrals are tracked using a "cookie" that is set when the person clicks on one of your specially formatted links. You can get the link that you need to send to your friends by clicking the Referral links link accessible from your account once you've signed in. The same page also provides links that you can use to display banners and product links on your web pages.

If you just tell your friends about Loot.co.za, that won't earn you referrals - you need to get them to click on the link that you email to them, or that you display on your website.

When one of your referrer links is clicked, we will set a "cookie" on the web browser of the person who clicked the link. You don't need to worry about the mechanics of this process, but the net result is that if the person uses that browser to register on Loot.co.za before the cookie expires, then you will be recorded as that person's referrer. The cookies that we set expire after a month. If the person already has one of our referral cookies set when your link is clicked, the existing cookie takes precedence.

Referrals are only recorded using the mechanism above. We cannot change or set a person's referrer once that person has registered on Loot.co.za.

    Other

You may not make use of affiliate or referral links as part of a Loot.co.za funded campaign. For example, if we have opted to buy paid advertising on your web site, or if you are charging Loot.co.za for clicks or impressions, then the links that you use may not include your affiliate or referrer id.

You may not include links on your website if your website contains material that is of an offensive, racist, or pornographic nature.

Banner images that you display on your website may not be altered in any way, and must be served from a Loot.co.za web server - you may not make local copies or serve the images from your web server.

If we change the referral fees or commission structure, then the new fees and structure will apply to all referrals that become eligible for payment from that point onward, even if the referred customer registered on Loot.co.za before the change.

These referral program guidelines should be read in conjunction with the normal Loot.co.za Terms and Conditions of Use.

In addition to the referral program, we also have an affiliate program which is aimed at more prominent web sites that need to earn cash for referrals rather than vouchers.

Affiliate program

The Loot.co.za affiliate program is a program whereby participating organisations can earn money by promoting Loot.co.za to visitors to their websites. This program is aimed at prominent websites and portals that need to earn cash for referrals rather than vouchers. Most people should use our referral program instead.

In order to become an affiliate, you first need to register as a customer on Loot.co.za, and then fill in the affiliate application online.

You will earn 5% of the value of the first order for each customer that you refer. Earnings for a referred customer become eligible for payment when that customer's first Loot.co.za order is completed. If that customer subsequently returns items on that order to Loot.co.za for credit, no referral fee will be payable for that customer.

Affiliate earnings are calculated and paid monthly as long as cumulative affiliate commission is greater than R100. The calculation of the amount will take into account orders that were completed in the previous month and will also include commission from previous months if the R100 payment threshold has not been met.

    Links

Referrals are tracked using a "cookie" that is set when the person clicks on one of your specially formatted links. You will be given the format of your links when become an affiliate.

When one of your affiliate links is clicked, we will set a "cookie" on the web browser of the person who clicked the link. The result is that if the person uses that browser to register on Loot.co.za before the cookie expires, then you will be recorded as that person's referrer. The cookies that we set expire after a month. If the person already has one of our referral cookies set when your link is clicked, the existing cookie takes precedence.

Referrals are only recorded using the mechanism above. We cannot change or set a person's referrer once that person has registered on Loot.co.za.

You may not include links on your website if your website contains material that is of an offensive, racist, or pornographic nature.

In connection with your participation in the program you will comply with all applicable laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, orders, licenses, permits, judgements, decisions, and other requirements of any governmental authority that has jurisdiction over you, including laws that govern marketing email.

If we change the affiliate fees, then the new fees will apply to all referrals that become eligible for payment from that point onward, even if the referred customer registered before the change.

Any product related data provided by Loot.co.za to you is to be used only on your website as specified on your affiliate application and approved by Loot.co.za and may only be used for the purpose of driving web traffic to Loot.co.za, and increasing the sales of Loot.co.za. Either Loot.co.za or you may close the affiliate account at any time and without notice. In the event of such termination, you agree to remove all links to Loot.co.za from your website and delete all product related data provided by Loot.co.za from your computers within 14 days of the closure of the affiliate account, including data in original form and also parts and modified versions thereof.
