A Family History for the Living stands as a guide out of mental illness, anguish and hardship. Anca Dumitrescu was diagnosed with bipolar disorder upon her graduation from the Cooper Union in NYC in 1989 and has worked to integrate the consequences of that diagnosis into the entirety of her life, private and professional, ever since. Since 2001 Anca Dumitrescu has been a certified massage therapist in New Jersey, turning a secondary interest into a vocation. Writing has been for Anca a means of affirming life, of providing a roadmap out of anguish for herself when there was no other.
