Excerpt: ... DIOCESE OF TUAM. After the series of Missions preached in this diocese during the year 1853, the Fathers of Charity were earnestly requested by the illustrious Archbishop of the West to return as soon as possible after Easter, this year, and bring the same blessings to other parishes anxiously longing for them. His Grace, in order to enable even the poorest parishes of his extensive diocese to have the benefit of these Missions, ordered a collection to be made every year, on the first Sunday of Lent, all through the diocese, for defraying the necessary expenses, and in his last Lenten Pastoral, His Grace speaks as follows: --" But there is one particular and most beneficial charity to which we expect that all and every one who avail themselves of our dispensation will contribute. We mean the collection for carrying on more extensively the Missions, which, as in last year, is fixed for the first Sunday of the coming Lent. The blessings of these Missions have been so much felt'and appreciated by all classes, that we doubt not they feel a holy solicitude to have them extended to several other parishes which they have not hitherto reached." And, lest the Missionary Fathers of Charity should forget the request made to them at the end of their Missions last year, His Grace addressed the following letter to Father Rinolfi: -- "My Deae Fathee Rinolfi, --I hope it is not asking too much to solicit the renewal of your charitable and valuable labours of last year in behalf of the faithful of this diocese.
