Although the studies of zoology, botany and geology were not pursued in the school, we were taught from observation the names and habits of every form of life in neighboring wood, field and stream. "Every flower was eagerly seized by us and carried to this teacher and friend who never failed to satisfy the curiosity which he himself had awakened. "Rocks and stones received the same attention, and the teacher possessed a fine collection of geological specimens which were the source of a great many interesting talks on formation, etc. "Entertainments were given in the basement of the school (fitted up for that purpose by pupils and teacher) and everything given from that stage (except music) was original or partly so. "But do not think on account of all these things, the necessary branches were neglected. "These were taught in the hours required, other things between aud after school sessions. "Many of us knew nothing of music and art, and we were drilled in these, and there developed a taste for those things that will make our after-life much happier. "This teacher and those two years of my life will ever be among my most pleasant memories and many schoolmates are with me in this." This teacher is living now. He taught not far from here.
