With these goes a tiny booklet prepared by the Language pupils, containing "Stories of Salt," "Salt Mines," etc.; and pictures of salt mines pasted in to illustrate the compositions. Maps of salt regions are also added. Salt Springs are found in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Michigan. Our United States salt springs and salt wells, with their tanks, barrels for salt, etc., are pictured in the booklet. And we found interesting pictures of the salt mines in Russia, Poland and Germany also. For a writing lesson we copied the story "Why the Sea is Salt" and the best copy was put on this shelf. 2. Tea--Besides tea leaves, pictures and stories, we have a quaint little tea cup that was given to us by a missionary in China. 3. Coffee--berries, pictures, etc. 4. Chocolate--fruit, candy, cake of chocolate, etc. 5. Sugar--piece of sugar-cane, sugar, bottle of molasses. 6. Flour--wheat-head, grains, flour mill pictures, etc. 7. Rice--kernels, rice flour, and chopsticks whittled out by one of the boys. 8. Pepper--pepper berry, ground pepper; compositions; explanation of white, black and cayenne. 9. Cloves--with bottle of oil of cloves; by the way the children will be interested to see the clove petals. Did you know that the little ball that forms the head of the clove nail is really composed of the petals of the flower? Soak the clove in water for a while, and these petals will soften and unroll. 10. Corn--grains, meal, ear, husks. 11. Barley rye, oats--(specimens of each).
