It simply collects money for other societies--a most precious auxiliary. Its 21,000 francs collected during the year have been divided among thirty-six religious societies. It was said lately that if only 500,000 out of our 800,000 Protestants were to give their pittance to this society, it would be above a million of francs a year It would be worth an effort to spread this society, for thereby much interest would be excited in every other to which it extends its gifts, and Protestants would be aroused. The forty-fourth anniversary of the Evangelical Society of France took place in the Taitbout Chapel, Pastor Durand-Dassier in the chair. The intention of this society has always been to keep the van and be aggressive, working among Roman Catholics, and leaving souls gained to Christ to join whatever church they prefer. The committee is formed of members both of the National and Independent Churches. Its income is about i J0,000 francs per annum. The efforts of the Jesuits are great, and often outrun the mark; populations are disgusted and long for something better. They send one and another to see what Protestantism is, and on the report of these beg a pastor to come to them. He comes, and the people flock...
