Excerpt: Palma de Mallorca Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Palma de Mallorca Airport, August 2008The history of Palma de Mallorca airport began in the 1920s, where seaplanes were used to post services to the other Balearic Islands. A flat area of ground next to Son Sant Joan was then used in the 1930s for flight routes to other areas in Spain. At the end of the year, more plans were made, including a power plant, a communications centre and fire and rescue facilities.
