Excerpt: Childress Vineyards is a winery owned by NASCAR Sprint Cup championship team owner Richard Childress in northern Lexington, North Carolina (which is part of Davidson County, North Carolina). This vineyard commenced operations in 2003. The vineyard is located in the Yadkin Valley AVA, an American Viticultural Area. The wines of Childress Vineyards may use the appellation Yadkin Valley on their label. It is owned by NASCAR owner Richard Childress. The winemaker is Mark Friszolowski and the vineyard manager is Matt Chobanian. Grapes are grown locally at the 65-acre (260,000 m) vineyard, at Childress' home estate, as well as are purchased from local growers. The vineyards are located at the intersection of U.S. Route 52 and U.S. Route 64 in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. The vineyard is open year round, with tours each day at 12:00, 2:00, and 4:00pm. Childress Vineyards was a primary sponsor of the 25th Anniversary Lexington Barbecue Festival held on October 25, 2008.
