Excerpt: Chu Mu-yen (Traditional Chinese: pinyin: Zh M y n; born March 14, 1982) is a Taekwondo athlete from Taiwan. He is the second Taiwanese athlete and first male to win a gold medal at the Olympics, winning in men's under 58-kilogram class in Taekwondo at the Athens 2004 Games. He was 22 years old and 1.73 meters tall when he won the Gold at Athens, and frequently competed against larger, stronger players in his Olympic Fly division. In the 2008 Olympics, Chu won the bronze medal in the men's under 58-kilogram class in Taekwondo. He also won the gold medal in the 2003 World Taekwondo Championships In December 2008, Chu Mu-yen earned his master's degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He will begin working on his PhD at the University of South Florida in the Fall of 2009. Though busy with his studies, Chu Mu-yen has participated in Taekwondo clinics and lectures in the greater Pittsburgh area. In an interview with the Pitt News on April 6, 2009 (the official student-body newspaper of the University of Pittsburgh), Chu Mu-yen reported that he would be unable to participate in this Summer's Tzu Chi Foundation Taekwondo Charity Tournament as a result of a sprained ankle that was caused playing basketball at Carnegie Mellon University with fellow Taiwanese students. This ankle injury, though not serious, "It's not brownie. It's piece of cake. I will get better." The article concludes with Ch Mu-yen stating that "Taekwondo is my first love, but my studies come first now.
