Montabaur's neighbours are, clockwise beginning in the north, Dernbach, Staudt, Heiligenroth, Groholbach, Girod, Steinefrenz, Heilberscheid, Isselbach, Stahlhofen, Untershausen, Holler, Niederelbert, Arzbach, Kadenbach, Neuhusel, Nomborn and Hillscheid.
