Excerpt: ... ELEMENTARY GRADES CHAPTER IX The work of elementary supervision in Box Elder School District aims to accomplish the following ends. (1) To unify the work throughout the county by providing outlines, and at the same time to encourage the greatest individuality in each teacher's work. (2) To improve instruction, to encourage good work, and to eliminate in a constructive way ineffective efforts through the following means: (A) Through adapting the State Course of Study to the local needs of Box Elder County through the medium of outlines. (B) Through institute work in which our problems are discussed and in which demonstration work with children plays a major part. Exhibits of work from various parts of the county have a stimulating effect at such times. The program of demonstration work for one of our institutes held last year follows: 'Third Grade Demonstration--Mrs. Mary C-Jensen, teacher. 1. Health: (a) Dramatization of "Safety" stories., 1. Traffic rules. 2. Fire. (b) Talk from "Safety" chart..-, II. Reading: "Safety" flash cards. III. Spelling--a development lesson. IV. Rest: Song, marching, salute.' V. Language: (a) Poems. (b) Games. (c) Picture Study Story-telling--"The Holy Bird" by Miss Guinivere Kotter. Story-telling--"Trading Babies" by Miss Maurine Olson. Miss Kotter and Miss Olson used both musical interpo-lation and the play theater in their story-telling. The art work in making properties for the play theaters was the work of Miss Lucile Jones. Dancing of the minuet in costume--Miss Rees' pupils. Art display of work outlined for the next quarter--Miss Lillie Mae Rees. See illustration on the following page.
