Bru Planning a Capital: Bru004 - Dutch Edition (Paperback)

The great figures of regional planning to give form to the hinterland of Brussels are completed. The metropolitan development of the capital passes today by partnerships effective on concrete plans and strategic, for which the private sector is already with the work. It was one of the reports posed at the time of a workshop organized by BrU with the CIVA at the beginning of this year 2008, in order to wonder about the relevance and the form of an interregional collaboration for the management of the urban area of Brussels. The protagonists, brought together respectively via the V.R.P. and the C.U.B., were invited to synthesize their reflexions by charting them, according to the form of their choice. It results from them a new joining from new ideas and existing projects, an exclusive vision of the metropolis of Brussels which is offered to you to the wire of the pages of this number. The question of interregional collaboration is complex, so much it crosses economic issues, problems of mobility, visions urban, social challenges and political complexities. This complexity guides an young generation of town planners precisely to be concentrated on the implementation of precise projects, without awaiting the formation of a broad consensus on a cupola of management a such urban community. The experiment of Zuidas, in Amsterdam, is for this reason lighting, as Katrien Theunis thinks it, which outlines a panorama of the great stakes of projects in and around Brussels. Among these projects, the redeployment of the industrial waste lands of Machelen-Vilvoorde, guided by the Province of the Flemish Brabant, is undoubtedly one of most advanced. It also marks the limits of this type of approach because does not answer, in fine, with the stake of the coordination of the actions, which watch the example of the thorn-bush choice of establishment of a great shopping mall in the north of Brussels.
Could a relationship healthy and balanced between the Areas suffice for a space vision integrated for the urban area to Brussels? It is the opinion of the Flemish Government which has just published its project for the "urban territory around Brussels." Nevertheless, according to some, to do without an authority as an urban community is impossible. The more so as of the examples exist, in Lilles or Basle. Rafaella Houlstan peels operations and the motivations of them. The motivation, perhaps the thing which misses most cruelly with the Belgian federal structure. Caroline Van Wynsberghe proposes the major difficulty to create, for the development of Brussels, an authority of collaboration: the problem of a leadership too pregnant of the central area which puts at evil susceptibilities partners.
