North Carolina and the War Between the States Poster Box of 12 (Sheet map, rolled)

North Carolina sacrificed more men for the Confederate cause than any other state. Now their contribution has been turned into a historic art piece. Meticulous detail and scholarly study produced this full-color poster, which serves as a quick overview of North Carolina's involvement in the Civil War. It includes color photographs of sixteen historic landmarks and museums, including Fort Macon State Park and the Governor's Mansion in Raleigh. Miniature portraits of generals and governors depict the men who led and supported 125,000 soldiers. The dedication these men showed by readily marching into battle for the future of their state earned North Carolina the label "First at Bethel, farthest at Gettysburg and Chickamauga, last at Appomattox." The slogan and its meaning are displayed next to a chronological listing of the state's twenty major battles. When Lincoln demanded troops for the Union armies from Tar Heel soil, Gov. John W. Ellis replied, "You will receive no troops from North Carolina." A short description of the state's secession from the Union and its contribution to the Confederate cause is placed above the generals' likenesses. Dramatic scenes of battle, including the Battle of Fort Fisher, also known as the Gibraltar of the South, and the recapturing of Fort Plymouth border a chorographical map of the region.
