Poverty Tale is a novel about life in an inner-city ghetto. It uses the venue of a soup kitchen to bring together myriad characters on all sides of poverty conditions. An altruistic couple strives to keep poverty at bay in their drug-ridden neighborhood. A wealthy heiress volunteers at the kitchen to find purpose in her life, a street-tough marijuana merchant chases the opportunity to go straight, and a city police officer tries to cleanse his conscience and understand the balance of crime fighting and police brutality. A theme woven into the plot is the burden of poverty and the extent of its grip. Many interesting characters pass through the kitchenas doors, letting the reader observe facets of ghetto living. The story culminates with a triumphant renaissance overcoming root causes of squalor.
