She leaves her family to come to the United States to be with her betrothed Lully who is to meet her in New York. The ship goes off course and ends up in Clayton New York where to get off the ship and avoid being sent back to Russia she has to marry. She finds a man 16 years older than herself and her whole life changes. This book is about the difficult yet fulfilling life she had until she became a widow at 57 and then 13 years later met a man with whom she had the warm loving life she had never had.
