Easbie parishe. j ane Harrison spinster poor lame woman, a Recusant. In the twelfth century this family were resident at Hilton in Cleveland. In or about 1556 they became of Kilvington. The person mentioned here was the eldest son of Roger Meynell of North Kilvington, who married Margaret, daughter and co-heiress of Anthony Catterick of Stanwick. He joined the Catholic insurrection of 1569, under the Earls of Northumberland and Westmorland, and thus incurred the penalties of high treason, but received the royal pardon. Thomas, his son and successor, was born in 1564. He married (1) Winifred, daughter of Thomas Pudsey of Barforth, and (2) Mary Gale. In 1600 he was committed to gaol as a Recusant. His place of confinement was the Blockhouse at Kingstonupon-Hull, from whence in the following year he was removed to York Castle.
