Excerpt: ... RECOMMENDATORY NOTES. The "manual Of Church Discipline," by Rev. E. Savage, was freely submitted to our inspection in its manuscript state. We were so mucb gratified with its perusal, that we encouraged the author's design of immediately putting it to press. It discusses a highly important but much neglected department of the laws of Christ's kingdom; and we do not hesitate to express our opinion, that the present treatise will do much towards supplying an acknowledged desideratum in our denominational literature. The author has confined himself strictly to the subject in hand; and on that has, we think, presented much practical instruction, in a simple and satisfactory manner. We heartily recommend the work to the members of those churches with which we are acquainted. While we may not agree with the author in every minor point, we believe that the work is substantially correct; and that its general circulation among the churches, will diminish the cases of discipline, at the same time that it gives direction for their treatment P.
