Erik Truffaz - Saloua (Import) (CD)

Two years after THE WALK OF THE GIANT TURTLE, a whirlwind of progressive electro-rock, Erik Truffaz is back with a brand new album that brings together the many elements of his previous work. As well as the LadyLand Quartet - Michel Benita (bass), Manu Codja (guitar) and Philippe Garcia (drums) - Truffaz is joined by Mounir Troudi and Nya. Both have previously collaborated with Truffaz on two parallel projects, the Ladyland acoustic quartet and the more dominant electronic collective, featuring Marcelo Giuliani, Marc Erbetta and Patrick Muller. One of the album's finest tracks, Yabous, features Mounir Troudi and Nya, singing about the absurdity of war, one in Arabic, the other in English. This latest album from trumpeter Erik Truffaz, who is already working on a myriad of new projects, represents the culmination of a career in music, blending urban rhythms with world music, the acoustic with the electric, and the spontaneity of improvisation with the intricacy of structured compositions. EMI. 2005.
