One of America's foremost photographers of rural life, Richard
Brown has spent much of his life striving to capture the beauty of
the natural world with his camera. Brown's search for the unspoiled
landscape has taken him all over the world, where he is always
looking for "echoes of home, for other rural places where a similar
life is being lived, but with a different accent, a different
flavor". In "Pictures From The Country 1999", Brown combines scenes
of rural harmony from his own backyard with those from the larger
world as well -- a breathtaking sunrise on Georgia's Cumberland
Island, Thomas Jefferson's flowering woods at Monticello and the
pastoral splendors of Yorkshire.
