Gwen and Anabel are longtime friends; Gwen is a Vampire Hunter-in-Training; Anabel, a young widow. When Anabel receives just one too many messages from her deceased husband, Gwen figures it's time to take action. She speaks to the mysterious Council, and they decide to take Anabel under protection in their Safe House. Gwen, determined to stay at her friend's side, seems to be immune to the Safe House's magickal barriers, meant to keep Vampires and other mystics at bay.
