The intrigues of f ranee, and the dread of her power, which had opened the gates of fo many other cities, gained the magistrates of Stra/lurg. The inhabitants, whofe love of freedom for fo faany ages enabled them tp preferve their liberties, 6 themfelves, m the midft of prwound peace, the fubjects of defpotic king, and their ramparts lined with 20,000 men ....
