Chris Riddell is a cartoonist with a mischievous sense of humour that comes through in his books. Goth Girl and the Wuthering Fright is no exception. While some of the humour might be above the understanding of young readers, it is a great conversation starter as a shared experience between parent and child. The is a lot of information to explore and laugh over. Having said that, as a childrens story, Goth Girl and the Wuthering Fright is a good story in itself. My favourite part, as an adult reader, was Homily Dickinson, in the process of writing a poem: Hope is a thing with feathers, Singing in a tree, Alas, upon thy bough, The cat is now, Creeping up on thee The original, from Emily Dickinson, was thought provoking but this version brought a grin. With a colourful cast of writers, authors and poets, and their aptly named pooches, this book was a fun read, complemented by Riddells wonderful illustrations.
