It is very satisfactory to note that the success of replanting with American stocks has given an impetus to further cultivation. Tastes in wines cannot be directed, and cultivators of the wine and shippers must wait their turn which comes and goes, and, as it is here hoped, in the case of sherry, comes again. Certainly none in Jerez can desire better advertisement than the spectacle of its healthy inhabitants, among all classes of whom sherry is the ordinary drink. The local boast that gout and rheumatism are unknown in Jerez is alone sufficient to tempt a trial of this famous wine. As I wrote last year, if sherry besides being a pure wine is as wholesome as those who manufacture and export it claim, then the taste for it will inevitably return. Sherry is exported to various countries, and especially to the United States, where it finds an increasing demand. Openings for There are at present no apparent openings for British traders Untish trade. jeyOn(j what may be gathered from the above written remarks. One exception can, however, be made in favour of agricultural machinery. This class of machinery, shown at local fairs throughout the country, serves to bring its uses before the untravelled agricultural population.
