Telegraph: Ottoman, wiring in European and Turkish. Tele-Telegraphs, phone all over the island. The Satnian Government contracted with an Italian engineer Hoads. to make carriage roads all over the islands for the sum of 27,710/. The same engineer contracted to extend the breakwater of Harbours. Vathy (capital of Samos) 60 metres further for the sum of 15,000/. The harbour at Carlovassi has been completed, aud there are also harbours under construction at Tigani and Marathocambo. Port Vathy some years ago. consisted of 700 houses, whilst now building is going on. Many fine houses are completed, or in progress, not only in the leading streets, but in the most retired quarters, and the above-mentioned number has been doubled. Scala Nuova.
