Long wrote this book to "improve health, prolong life, and promote virtue, adding to the happiness and lessening the burdens of men, on the one hand; on the other, reducing their crimes and vices." This book describes details of normal sex life, describes the art of love, and gives explicit instructions pertaining to the intimacies of a healthy sex life. When Long first wrote this book it could only be sold to professionals. The general public was not allowed to buy books describing healthy sexual relations.
