Founded May 31, 1989, KMUV is currently owned by Cowles Publishing Company. KMUV-LP is a sister station to KION-TV, a CBS affiliate. KMUV-LP was previously a Univision affiliate; it is unknown when the station switched affiliations. The KMUV callsign was assigned to a former station from 1974 until 1981, on that which is now KMAX-TV in Sacramento.
