Fully Refrigerated LPG Carriers (Hardcover)

This publication provides the first comprehensive study of the design and development of fully refrigerated LPG carriers. It spans a period from the challenging and exciting refrigeration breakthrough in the late 1950's to the present day. Written from a naval architect's point of view, the chapters are loosely arranged around each shipbuilding yard, as each made a significant contribution to making the safe sea transport of liquefied gases in bulk the success it is today. This progress was generally made independently by the yards and as such, each has a story in its own right. Many yards had distinctive charateristics which were built into the designs and were often repeated and improved on later ships, as experience was gained and capacities increased. 100 drawings and over 150 photographs and paintings are included with technical details of all FRLPG carriers built or converted. In conclusion the author presents a new FRLPG carrier design concept called 'Ptarmigan'. Eight extensive appendices include a delivery chronology, dimensions, capacities, shipbuilder's reference lists and name changes of all FRLPG carriers featured.
