There are three adjoining parishes of the same name, Brown Candover and Chilton Candover in the Manesberg Hundred; and Preston Candover in the Bermondspit Hundred; and we have, therefore, set down all the above notices as referring to Preston Candover, which has an area of 3413 acres. Dummere--pages 14 and 22. Hugh De Port holds Dummer, and one of his dependants holds it under him, and Aluric held it allodially of King Edward. It was then as now assessed at 5 hides. Here are 5 ploughlands, 2 in demesne, and 8 villeins and 9 borderers with 2 ploughlands; also a church, and 3 servants. The value in the time of King Edward was, and is now, 100s., and when it came in possession 40s. Ode Of Winchester holds Dummer; and Hengar holds it of him, and Auti held it of King Edward. It was then, as now, assessed at 5 hides. Here are 5 ploughlands, 3 in demesne, and 2 villeins and 3 borderers with 1 ploughland; also a church, 3 houses in Winchester, which pay 2s., and 1 acre of meadow. The value in the time of King Edward was, and is now, 100s., and when it came in possession, 60s. The parish of Dummer comprises an area of 2180 acres. Essewelle--page 15.
