Barbershop/Barbershop 2 - Back in Business (DVD)

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,
A double bill of barbershop humour. 'Barbershop' (2002) is a feel-good tale about a Chicago barbershop. Calvin (Ice-Cube) is a would-be entrepreneur with big plans - and running his family's barbershop isn't one of them. But when he impulsively sells the shop to a shady loan shark, he soon realises just how important the neighbourhood salon is to him - and just how far he'll go to get it back. In the sequel, 'Barbershop 2' (2004), Calvin (Ice Cube), having overcome his financial difficulties, is no longer in danger of losing his shop - but his neighbourhood is in danger of losing its identity. A huge, faceless corporation is moving into the community with the intention of setting up name-brand coffee bars, video stores - and a well-known hairdressing chain which they are planning to open right across the street from Calvin's shop. Calvin and his crew must take a stand to keep the South Side and its businesses in the family tradition. Meanwhile, it's business as usual at the barber shop: customers still get plenty of gossip, personal guidance, stories, jokes, discussions and political commentary included in the price of their haircut.
