The state ranks 8th in the nation in earnings from the production of nondurable goods. Indiana ranks high (13th) in permit filing for single family homes; this is in a state where 70 per cent of Hoosiers are homeowners. Of Indiana's 92 counties, 43 have a population density of fewer than 80 people per square mile. Population growth of 2.6 per cent or more was experienced by most Indiana counties in the 1990s. But which counties aren't growing? Income increased in the majority of Indiana's counties (64) by at least 12.5 per cent during the latest ten year period.
