Exposure to radiation can either be acute (single exposure) or chronic (over an extended period) and each produces a different risk to the population as a whole and to the individual. Estimates of risk for different organs, for the population as a whole and individuals, as a result of exposure are given in this technical document, using risk projection models developed from previous research.
